King - Love and Pride. From around '86. Great bass line and subtle slap & pop in the song. Not a King fan but this bass line always kept me from changing the station.

Leigh Gorman slapped a lot in Bow Wow Wow... Sometimes songs would have a ton of slapping but it was still always tasteful... But slapping wasn't all he did, he played all sorts of ways... conventional fingerstyle, with a pick, fretless, etc.

Anyone mention the bass line in 'we didnt start the fire'? Maybe not super subtle, but it works very well for the song.

There are a few little bits of slap in Bowie's 'ashes to ashes' if I remember correctly.
