Tasteful slapping in pop songs (or other)... Name your examples!

That was my first choice.

The very next example would be THIS! "You Can Call Me Al". Bakithi Kumalo work on both the "Graceland" album and the excellent follow-up, Rhythm Of The Saints", is just spellbinding!



They don't show him much in that video, but they do show him when he's laying down that monster riff toward the end of the song.

Ahh, interesting, I never knew. Will need to listen with different ears next time. Used to love 'eyes w/out a face'. All of Billy Idol's first album is good IMO.

Eyes Without a Face indeed has some killer bass work, but I never heard any slapping in it. Flesh for Fantasy most definitely has a slap bit in the middle tho, it's the lick I use to annoy guitarists ;)

Ready Freddie Washington played the bass on Forget Me Nots.
On Lowdown, that slap line is played by none other than David Hungate (Toto). He learned the style from a local Ft. Worth bassist named Ira Wilkes.

Peg is my favorite Dan song by far! Chuck's part in that is sick, although i'll never be able to figure it out! Can't wait til the show this year. Freddie killed it when I saw them for the first time 2 years ago. He also nailed it in the Duke's of Septemeber Rhythm Revue Last Summer.

Nice! Rhythm Of The Saints flew under the radar on me for so long. Awesome albums.

I got to see BOTH concerts! Think I enjoyed TROTS concert a little more back then. I saw Grace in LA. There was a rumor that Chevy Chase would show up, but he didn't. If saw both concerts today though, knowing the history of the way Graceland was put together, I think I'd dig that one more.

But both were absolutely brilliant shows!!!! :bassist:
