I just received an explanation to what exactly my custom tapped PU’s are. They are very much what I thought the are. They are single coils, not humbuckers, not stacked.

“They are made like the Schecters.
They are single coils wound with 44 gauge wire and a tap halfway through the coil at 5100 turns for the bridge and 4900 for the neck.
The total number of turns is 10200 on the bridge and 9800 on the neck.”

What changes in sound do you get when you engage the tap? I'd guess lower output and brighter tone when running on half a coil, but I've never had a bass with pickups configured like that.

They seem to be about half volume using the half tap... I usually use the neck PU at full volume and the bridge at half volume. On a slower or softer passage I might turn off the bridge PU and use the neck PU at half volume.
I really have lots of options this way.
I originally got these types of PU’s when I put my other bass together in 1982 using Schecter parts. I couldn’t find tapped PU’s available and I custom ordered them for this bass from Tom Brantley Rewinds.

Tapped like a dual voice coil speaker.
One coil, say inner tapped at x many winds, and a second wind overlayed on it, and combined at the switch for full winding count. NOW I GET IT :)
