Later on when they explain the real reason they got it , we can have a good laugh that it was never seaman to begin with.

Not so fast.......
One thing that I have learned from this thread is that not everyone gets tattooed for the same reasons.

That's HOT, isn't it ?

I kinda hate sending this link, cos I haven't updated my shop online portfolio in years... I have alot more recent stuff on my Facebook that I pull up for people at the shop when they ask, but I keep my Facebook set pretty private, mostly for personal privacy, but also I HATE how much work gets ripped off when its plastered on the internet and since my portfolio is largely pics of my custom work I try to protect the uniqueness of people's custom ideas by not putting it out there completely publicly. that way, I can show interested clients alot of my work in person, but tracers don't steal it online and put someone's one of a kind on fifty people.

Very nice. I hadn't considered the theft aspect. Makes sense.

I was talking to a tattoo artist in DC-he said that in DC, you (as an artist) have to safeguard your portfolio because people will wander into tattoo shops and pretend to be looking through portfolios and when the people in the shop are preoccupied with other things, they will steal a portfolio and run off with it. He said the reason is; people with no skill will buy a tattoo machine and steal a portfolio and pas it off to other shops as their work. That's how some people get jobs. I had never thought of that. Kinda scary to think about...

yep! that has happened as well.. I've stopped putting a portfolio with pictures in it out on the counter years ago. people would also come in and just steal individual pics as well, either for the same reason or to take the pic to another shop to copy the tattoo when they know we wouldn't for "custom work" reasons. we've had guys come to our shop with stolen portfolios to try to get in, we just confiscate em and try to find the rightful owners.

fyi: guys who get hired at shops using a bogus portfolio are found out to be liars usually with the first tattoo they do. If they mess up a client with that lie they will end up leaving most shops in a bloody pulp.

I would be more receptive to a tat that was instructional in nature. Perhaps a list of "likes" and "dislikes" or (in old school speak) "turn-ons" and "turn-offs". Not a novel, just a bullet point list. A set of Cliff's Notes for ringing this lady's bell, as it were. Some ladies don't like Q&A or even talking at all while they're making cookies.
Yes, I hereby give functional tatoos of this nature a pass.

Not only is that a horrible idea for a tattoo, it's also very poorly done too. That thing needs some serious touching up, or covering up which is probably a better option. I just wonder what her kids will say when they see her bending over to pick something up off the floor and they read that.

Surprise surprise. Talk Bass with yet another double-standards for women thread? Boy I'm shocked.

Women can get tattoos if they want. They aren't all here to be your eye candy. If you don't like it, too bad.

Yeah, that one actually made me cringe. Tacky beyond belief, and not even particularly clever.

Lol, I'm not seeing a double standard at all, nobody is saying women "can't" get tattoos, they are simply expressing that they'd prefer to not have a women covered in ink.
