I go along with a call to lock thread titles and posts that have been liked. @the ombudsman and @PortlandBass77 show as liking the OP but I don't know if they like the current one or the original...

To be honest I don't remember this thread at all, I do agree with the current OP though assuming Super_Freak is talking about people bashing Lemmy. Lemmy was a legend and I don't think I could ever see him as anything but.

My mind forms an odd word association now. I've heard the name Lemmy and I've heard of the band Motörhead and have never been a fan of either. Before SF came on the scene I barely knew he was the bass player. He could've been the drummer for all I knew. So now when I hear the name Lemmy I immediately associate it with SF and his posts here.

I don't think so. Once someone places themself in the spotlight and profits from it, they're fair game. As long as you stick to facts, which I think everyone here has done (I know nothing of his parenting). But bashing? Um, no. Bashing would be much more hateful than what I've seen in this thread.

Sorry, then stop posting about him. Not many people agree with your view of Lemmy. If you're open for discussions that don't paint him in the same light as you do, then fine. But if you can't handle people posting facts about him that may or may not jive with your view, or in a way that seems denigrating.... stop posting about him. You'll only get worked up again.

I really don't see any benefit to you starting any more Lemmy threads because, at this point, I think they will disappoint you. You may not see it, but from my perspective, you want to have threads that do nothing but say how great he was... sort of a cheer leading thread. Look at TalkBass.. or any forum. That doesn't happen. I could start a thread about Geddy Lee, or Chris Squire, or Grahm Maby and I can garuntee not everyone would have the same opinion of them. You get very defensive and actually cause the discussions to go on and on with your rebuttals and tone. If you'd just let some of those posts go and ignore them, or maybe admit they have a point.... I doubt as many of your threads would turn out the way they do. Just let it go. It's a forum, it's entertainment, don't let it get to you. It's not worth it.

Discourse is common among any sufficiently large group of people. Every individual is not going to agree on things. Discussions are great, as people who disagree voice their opinions and a lively bit of time can be enjoyed by many people. Some people are very thin skinned about things and believe their opinions are absolute and the only "right" opinion. Those are usually the individuals who find they are under "attack" constantly, and are rarely able to successfully enter into a discussion with a large group of unsympathetic folk.

Saying that a guy drank himself to death after he died from cancer at a ripe old age of 70 is just ridiculous in my opinion.
Speaking that ill of the dead is not cool either.
I've known guys who drank themselves to death, and they were gone in their 50s.
No one sat around going, "Well he did it to himself!", right after their funeral.

You just didn't hear it, I assure you that somebody made that comment.

Lemmy died almost 3 months ago, so this discussion isn't "right after" his funeral.

Also, why not speak truthfully of the dead? If it's "ill" to speak and bring up direct quotes or actions of someone posthumously, perhaps that individual shouldn't have said/did those things during their life. I don't believe in celebrating a persons passing, but if a person say or do things in life that are generally socially unaccepted, it'll most certainly come up after their passing.

Edit to add: I'm failing to find anything truly "great" Lemmy did other than play bass in a successful band and live a life full of drugs and alcohol. It's hard to speak greatly of someone who was not in fact great.

Unless someone's related to or a personal friend of someone, I don't see why they would care what anybody says about said person. We're all human, we all have our good moments and bad moments and we all die. I don't see why that would imply that no one should express an opinion about it. What's the big deal?
