TC Electronic BG250 Club (Part 2)

Played two gigs yesterday with my acoustic group using my BG 250 1x15 version 1. The "band" is just acoustic guitar, bass and vocals. First gig was a small outdoor festival thing. We were in a large pavillion facing the lawn and had fantastic PA support. The second gig was at a coffeshop/bakery and the amp carried the room for bass. For both gigs I ran the EQ set flat, gain at 5 on the dial, tube at 3 on the dial, and spectracomp at 3 on the dial. Volume was around 4 1/2. Actually had to turn the bass EQ down a hair for the coffeshop - just too boomy they said. I attribute that to the room and not the amp. The tone was fantastic! I've previously only used this amp for practice and messing around. I will definitely be using it for all future gigs with the acoustic group. Not quite enough oomph for the 80s cover band, though.

Your question may lack of some informations :)
Are you trying to achieve a tone that you can achieve with another amp or is it a tone that you have in your head ?
The good tone you want to achieve is a good bedroom tone or a good band tone ?
When you use it, is it at low volume ?
How do you set your bass (pickups and tone knob) ?

IME the BG250 can produce quite a "deep low sound". Just crank up the bass knob...

Speaking of not getting the tone you want. I am going to try hooking up an Eden WT400 to the BG250 if I can make it work. What I'm thinking is to plug my bass into the WT400, then connect the WT400 from its headphone jack to the input of the BG250. Will this work? Anyone tried connecting a pre or power amp to the BG250 before? I know I can't add additional power, I am only trying to utilize the Eden EQ section while still having the BG250 powered on its own and operating "normally"

Thoughts?

It's a tone that kind of is in my head, but it's like uh.. Daft-Punk Get lucky boomy bass sound you know, or even A Perfect Circle Bass tone from the song "The Outsider"
And i usually put both pickups and tone all the way up, and sometimes i solo the neck pickup.
And i tried cranking the bass knob but it's way too muddy and my tone is unclear :/

I think you should try another approach if you get a too boomy tone :
at first try to cut a bit the bass to reduce the boomy lows (-1 or -2), then cut a little more the mids to get a fatter tone.
And if you find that the top end is too present you can play with the high knob of the bg250 and/or with your bass tone knob.
If find the bg250 to be a little bit boomy and honky when set flat. So I usually take as a starting point all the knobs at -1.
I don't know if it will get you to the tone you have in head, but it should be better than just boosting the lows :)

But be aware that when you reduce the mids too much, it can sound good at home but can result in tone that will not hear well when playing with other musicians.

I don't see no reason why it shouldn't work. I made some tries with some preamps plugged in the aux and it worked well.
But I prefer to plug my preamp before the bg250 eq, like that I can use its eq for more tone adjustments if needed.
As I said to NightLease, I found that a good starting point can be with the eq knobs set at -1. It sounds more flat to my ears (but I don't know if my ears are good :) )

I am little confused as to what you mean. You plugged a preamp into the BG250 through the BG250's headphone auxiliary jack?

The way I have it planned I would be setting the WT400 before the BG250's preamp, its just a manifested input signal which the amp wont be able to tell a difference of (at least I hope lol). My plan is to go from the headphone output on the WT400 (thus bypassing the power section) into the input on the BG250 (thus to that power section).

I'm pretty sure that's not going to get a good result. Headphone out is "amplified," and even if the headphone out were the right level for an instrument input, the quality of headphone out signals varies a good bit (i.e., a really good amp can have a not so good headphone signal), it's not a pristine preamp signal.

You'll want to use the effect loop ("preamp out") on the WT400 to bypass the power section.

Thanks DrPepper. Do you work for TC lol? This is what they sent to me when I asked...

"This will work, but you should use the 1/4" effects send jack on the back of your Eden. Headphone outputs are powered, and may add unwanted distortions. Please keep in mind, with some amps, damage may occur if you do not have a speaker load attached. I would ask Eden if it is okay to run your amp without a load."

This is what the Eden WT400 manual says about the Effects Jack

"Effects Send/Return – These standard ¼ jacks allow you to send and receive your signal to and from external devices. The effects loop is positioned post (behind) the compressor and enhance control and prior to the tone section."

I am confused if all of the tone controls affect what comes from the effects send/return. But I'll bug those at the Eden forum about this.

I haven't received my check...I may have to burn down the building

Effect loop send/return is the break point between the preamp and power section, and none of the EQ occurs after the preamp.

Here's another option for you. I just bought one for my 1x15 and ran less than $50 shipped. I'm sure they can do one for a 210 as well. It's very nicely done using a vinyl backed water proof polyester exterior with the name of the amp model embroidered on the front. I fits like a glove but it isn't a padded cover like those from LeCover so if you need that kind of added protection that's who I would go with. I don't transport mine packed in with a lot of other gear so my need was mainly to protect the tolex from tears and to keep dust from collecting inside the grill and on the speaker when it sitting in my den or a rehearsal studio. For that it works very well.
