TC Electronic RH450 discussion - Tweaking the Preamp

Wow, finals had me out of the loop, I can't believe this is happening. I remember a month ago people were suggesting this on the mega threads and others thought the notion was silly, now TC has a product in development! Could the company get any cooler?
As for uses I would open up the top end and tweak the compressor to be more of a peak limiter, set it to tame my Mutron and other filters perfectly. KJung, can't wait to see how you open up the top for some sizzle. Will you get your sizzle by adjusting the LPF or adjusting the treble freq. range? I getting excited.

If I can get the RH to not only be an awesome warm punchy tube like amp but also get a really high sheen modern tone, then I will be extremely impressed. I really like what the amp does already so more options is brilliant.
Hello. My test unit should arrive late this morning. I'll mess with it for a day or two and then get some clips up.
I would assume that the LPF will be the thing to adjust to widen that top end just a bit. It sounds again like TC has this control built into the new combo line with a control called 'tweetertone', which seems to be a combination upper treble volume/LPF setting control. I assume we will see that kind of control on future versions of their flagship amps.

So are the test units essentially standard RH450's? I assume they're sending you "test units" so that you don't have to tamper with your own personal RH.
Assuming you tweak something like the LPF and like it, are you then able to make the same tweak to your personal RH?

Correct in theory. However, I would assume this software is not ready to be applied to a non test unit, and I would think that would be a 'warranty busting' situation if anything went wrong.
+1, and I think its for our own peace of mind.
Anyone thought of hooking their amp and test amp together just to see how damn loud it is?!

Two heads running two 8ohm cabs will not sound much different than a single one running both cabs at 4ohms (you will get just a touch more wattage). Not worth the trouble. The only reason to do this is if you are using two 4ohm cabs (or four 8ohm cabs), and your head will not support 2 ohm operation, or dual mono operation.
Agreed. I think most who do this, incl the Public Enemy bass player, use more cabinets. He uses 4 RS212s! 4...

However... nothing much to see... a Rebelhead450 (the EU versions are still called that) and a Midi cable
I'm up and running! Kind of spooky to see the parameter 'rings' move while being controlled by my laptop.
Cool! I'm just getting familiar with the interface... pretty slick... and a 'defualt' button to get the amp back to the factory settings if you get yourself into trouble. Nice.
Also, the ability to store setting on your PC for later loading into the amp.
And... finally for today... the tweetercontrol thing, which allows you to raise the default lo pass from 5K up to 20K if you want.

Pfff. Ken's already done, now that he can open up the low-pass filter.

However, I will do due diligence on all the other stuff over the next couple of weeks
I'll put a picture up of the 'system' tomorrow when I get the RebelHead test unit, the RS450, the Boomerang III and my Portable with the software loaded set up in my typical recording location (the family room). Boy, won't my wife enjoy that for the next week!
