Whoa! Page 5 already?!

Looks like you and I were writing at the same time and thinking along the same lines.

Yes, as nice as it would be to have a portable version of the software, especially if it were hand held, realistically, it may not be more portable in the near term than a laptop running Windows or OSX.

Congrats to the five of you. I've been following the RH450 threads for some time now and I can't think of a better bunch of guys to do this. You guys really now your stuff.

What I'd like to see, at the simple punch of a button or a quick download, poof, you've got instant B15 sound. Or say, for $1.29 you can download a super clean hi-fi sound ready to go. Whatever you're in the mood for really, or watever the gig calls for.

Very interesting idea... RH450 "apps" so to speak.

Say you could download amp models from TC and then upload them to the RH450 head... THAT actually would be very attractive to me as well.

As for tweaking via computer at a gig, I'm pretty sure I'd actually like that -- especially if it was a venue I'd be playing in for a stretch.

But if I'm anywhere for a stretch, I've got a laptop with me as well.

Well, as with most things iPhone related, it's more about the wow factor than it is the practicality of it. I think the iPhone app would be super cool personally, especially if you could store a bunch of settings you like. You never know what you might run into at a gig.

My guess though is that most folks who really want this kind of funcitonality (modeling) are going to be looking at a more tools from Line 6 or Korg for example. A G System designed more for bass would be cool.

What I'm hoping is that the low pass filter is configurable per preset, and not a global setting. I'd like to have a modern setting in one preset, along with the "RH450" tone in another.

Someone mentioned making the RH450 sound like a LMII. I think this will now be TOTALLY possible, at least to a very large extent. Plugging directly in the FX return on the RH450, it's obvious the poweramp is every bit as punchy and quick as the LMII/III. So, it's the preamp that is providing that slight give on the attack. The high frequency roll-off probably contributes a lot to that. One thing I plan to do is scope the RH450 with a pink noise generator, see what the current "flat" line looks like, and then see if I can really flatten it out with the tweaker software. Since the LMII is one of my favorite heads also, I also plan to try and replicate the VPF when at 8 or 9 o'clock as I used it like that occasionally on some of my gospel gigs.

The tweaker software just sounds cool all the way around. Can't wait to dive in. :hyper:

No, I bet you are right, not that I care too much about what Steve Jobs thinks anymore though. He and Apple have become that entity that they used to fight against.

+1 I would see this type of application as almost a 'one time use' for most (just tweaking the parameters for 'their sound'), and possibly another tweak down the road if the player purchased a new bass or cab that had particular issues.

Quite frankly, I can't see doing anything to the RH450 except possibly widening out the upper treble response, and maybe, just maybe tightening the Q on the upper mid control.

Nice to have that ability though, but as you say, this isn't a 'real time' tool IMO... more of a 'tweak out of the box' to fix anything minor in the voicing of the amp you might not like.

This is all sounding very interesting.
I think that IF this ever reached end-users as a product, it would cost a lot of money - and rightly so.
This has to be a first - a company allowing you to completely and utterly customise your amp. That's Fantastic. It is also unnecessary for most of us. Therefore, it may be better suited to a small part of the market - TC will NOT go to the hassle of making a good User Interface, designing the software, making the correct cable, marketing, etc for no money at all - it won't sell very many units at all because it is not important to that many people.

We're all fairly excited/opinionated about it - but we're on TalkBass - I doubt we make up a large section of the market? Of all the TC Amps that are sold (not a huge number yet - not quite the Bass-Name that MarkBass/Ampeg is) only a small number will want to add this more in depth feature to their amp.

IF they release a product at all.

At the end of the day, a global company is allowing a small group of users to to help with Research and Development of future products.
Brilliant stuff.

I wonder if the app will come with preset files containing the factory default configurations for the RH450 and S51 so that people can easily get things back when they screw up their settings.

I'm also curious if it will allow you to completely convert an RH450 into an S51. Or if it will do anything to try and prevent people just buying the RH450 and converting it into an S51 with a preset load.

(I realize you guys don't have the cables yet, so can't actually test anything yet.)

I'll slightly disagree with Jason, as I do think this is the case (at least the R part, not the D part tho). HOWEVER, they didn't hold a gun to our head, either. They offered, and we JOYFULLY accepted. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. My "paycheck" on this will be the learning process, the fun, and maybe even some direct benefit in the future in product. I have NO complaints, and I'm pretty sure the rest of our group feels the same.

I know you're generally negative towards TC for your S51 experiences, but really, there's no reason to carry that around here. Let's try to keep the shiny side up, ok?
