+1 I misread the post. I actually use that adjustment to widen my very tight AE410, which can get a bit chewy and overly mid punchy in some rooms. I guess possibly taking the bass control all the way down to the 70hz point and cutting a bit might help, but that's still probably too high. The best thing, per your comment, is to use the dual 210 stack IMO.

I think I gotta agree with you, 2 x 210's.
You think I would have learnt after the same issues with my Epi UL212.
My local has a 210, I might have to ask a favour.

That will be interesting. My RH450 and 410UL are in different locations, so I haven't been able to try that combination. My feeling is it will not be a great match (i.e., the pure, wide, smooth, airy Epi voicing with the chewy, mid aggressive and a bit grindy/growly RH voicing). However, as you know, things can come together in surprising ways.
That head just SLAMS with the AE410 thought... lot's of chest thump and 'mule kick' in that matchup IME!
Yea, I hear ya. I'm definitely curious to hear any results. I've been intending to pick-up an RH450 for a while, and it appears to me like If it's possible to dial a good sound through that amp/speaker combination I'd have one light gig in my hands!
Ken, just curious if you tried the RH450 through your Schroeder 15+L? I searched through the thread but didn't see any reference, sorry if I missed it.
What the heck. I'll just do a quick post here, since others might be interested. I just played a bit through the rig with a couple of different J style basses, and I really don't dig this match-up. Even with widening the EQ shelving points on the RH450 and boosting the lows and highs and cutting the mids in various ways, it is still too much 'tight mid punch versus tight mid punch'. The MB heads work much better with this cab, since they have that ability to crank up a bit of deep low end without impacting the low mids at all, and have that contour filter that can further widen this punchy little cab.
So, not my thing at all.

I had the MB LMII for a little while and while I thought it sounded pretty good I wasn't blown away with it. I preferred the sound of my Puma with the Epi 410UL over the LMII. I was just wondering how you would compare the RH450 with the Puma.

I have a little bit of a review up in some thread, but can't remember which one.
I did a pretty good a/b/c/d of these heads with a few basses and my AE410 when the RH450 arrived.
I found the RH450 and LMII to be more similar than different (I could get the LMII to sound quite a bit like the RH450 by engaging the VLE, although of course the LMII will not 'grind' like the RH450 will with the tube emulation control). The RH450 was a bit more chewy and low mid punchy, and didn't have that nice upper treble extension like the LMII (hence the VLE 'equating' the two a bit), but has much more punch and force (that 'kick you in the chest' sort of thing).
Basically, the Puma is much cleaner, much purer, much deeper way down low, more hi fi up top, and not nearly as punchy or loud in an absolute sense as the RH450. I believe the Puma500 (that's the only one I'm familiar with) is probably the best sounding head available... IF you are looking for pure and transparent, with a nice fat, warm low end, along with a very glassy, pure, airy, hi fi top end. And, the low mid control is wonderful with the Epi cabs, adding a bit of punch and burp. The RH450 is more of a mid punchy beast, and will get quite a bit louder, at the expense of that 'pure fidelity' of the Puma.
Hope that helps a bit. They sound quite different!
Thanks Ken. Nice array of amps in the photo. I'm happy with my Puma but just wanted to see if I might like the RH450. I'll probably get one just to have more variety of sounds. I really like the RS210/212 stack but I know what some of the guys were saying about using it indoors. I can see where 2- 210s might work better indoors on a small stage, but I just used the stack on an outdoor gig on a large stage and the rig sounded great. Lots of low end but still punchy. In a club it sounded a little boomy on a small cramped stage. Looks like I may have to get another 210. It would be great to do an outdoor or large club with the 212 and 2-210s.

The RH450 works great with an Ampeg SVT810 cabinet. I have never pushed it really far, but still...

For my tone goals, I would definitely consider the 2 x 210. I'd rather have a good, even, punchy tone on 90% of my gigs, and give up a touch of force on the rare outside gig (that typically would have front of house anyway). And, that deep 212 looks like a pain to get on a small cart, due to the depth.
I believe poptart has, if you go back a few pages in this thread. Same amp, just a 'baked in tweak' of the EQ and effects parameters to give you a different sound 'out of the box'.
That means that besides the color there is nothing that I couldn't do with my RH450!?
