TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

Hey Guys! I just received my TC RH750 today, I must say the build quality looks and feel really solid. My question for those with the amp I notice my preset buttons seems a little loose, is this normal?

Yeah. They are just plastic chiclets that sit over a solid button. The chiclets themselves wiggle. No biggie.

I just picked up one of the last two at Bass San Diego. I haven't had time to ring it out yet, but I played one in the store the other day, and was blown away, especially through an AE212. Another customer came in and played it through an AE410, and it was equally impressive.

Anyway, I think I'm now done with the whole amp thing.

got the RH450 and cant get a sound I am happy with through my AE212 (AE112 sounds good though).
So the RH750, with the tweetertone, makes that much of a difference with the AE212? :hyper:

How could I know? Maybe you and I have completely different tone goals. I just played it through my AE410 and it just kills. There are a lot of tone variations in there. Maybe I'll hook it up to my AE212 tomorrow. With all the semi-para EQ options available on the RH750, I don't see how you can't make it sound the way you want. What amp do you like with the AE212? I know it sounds great with a Shuttle 9.0.

I just got the RH750 delivered today. Had a coupon and got 15% off. I've been talking to a builder about a fEARful 15/6/1 but the place that I ordered from had an RS212 restock for 150 bucks off so I ordered that. Plan was/is to compare to the sound of the 15/6/1 within the week.

After playing with the RH750 and RS212, I'm really happy with that combo. It's got tone that I like, adjustments of the tone that I like and it's plenty loud if I want it to be.

I've been a 15"/18" guy in the past: Big Crown 4U poweramp that sounded great but weighed a ton, with a Yamaha PB-1 preamp, in a rack and all that. 15" and 18" biamped with PB-1's crossover. Really heavy rig, good tone, plenty of bottom end and then some.

Reason I mention that is that I was worried about the RS212 not having enough bottom end for what I'm used. No worries. It's got plenty of bottom end and great midrange. Someone said that the RS212 sounds 'dark' to them. It's true the bottom and the midrange is great, but it's definitely not a high-fi sound on the top end. Don't get me wrong, the tweeter is working and I am getting highs that I like, but I'm not much of a 'high' guy. In other cabinets I usually turn tweeters off (on RS212 have them on and using Tweetertone). For me it's getting a classic tone from my passive MIA Fender Jazz that I really like.

I'm still considering the fEARful 15/6/1 and will bring the RH750 to the local builder's shop to check it out. I will A/B it to the RS212. I am guessing that these cabinets are going to sound very different. Maybe yes, maybe no. Right now I'm really liking the sound I'm getting out of the RS212.

There's a lot I like about the amp so far but in one afternoon I haven't twiddled with all the knobs enough to know all of what it will do. EQ set flat it sounds great. Low Mid and High Mid up 2-4 notches with Bass and Treble flat and TweeterTone in the middle has the sound I really like with my J-Bass.

On the J-Bass I run both pickups full or slightly roll back the bridge PU for a P-bass-like sound or slightly roll back the neck pickup with bridge up full for more J-bass bite. Tone knob either full or slightly rolled back depending on mood.

Presets on the RH750 are Kick Ass. All there is to say about that. Except. It. Kicks. Ass. I've got three tones set now that I like. I am sure tomorrow I will change them the more I fiddle. 1) Totally Flat 2) LowMid and HighMid up three clicks, 3) same as 2 but with some Tubetone (10 o'clock I think) just to get a bit of tube-like growl. I like it enough I don't think I will need my Sansamp Paradriver DI when using this amp. With my other amp (Carvin), Yes, I will use the Sansamp.

When I A/B the fEARful and the RS212 later this week I will post again to this thread with impressions.

I like the idea of the fEARful and I still may get it. But I like the idea of having 2 RS212s for the price of one fEARful 15/6/1. 2 RS212s are probably all that I will need for the foreseeable future and 1 cab will probably be enough for 95% of what I do. I can see 2 RS212s vertically stacked looking pretty cool and sounding good.

An aside. The RS212 I got was a factory restock for 150 bucks off the regular price. I opened it and it was fine, looked fine, sounds fine, 150 bucks cheaper. Anyone have any idea why, if I get another RS212, I should pay the full street price (right now about $649) instead of getting the restock for $499? This is a restock with full warranty for about a 23% discount. I have 30 days to give back if I don't like it.

Overall I like the Amp. Great Tone, light weight, excellent features, as loud as I need it, excellent build quality. Really glad I got it. Really glad I had a 15% off coupon that I could use on it as well.

@Munjibunga: How many clicks do you reckon 100hz is left from center?

When I got the unit, after pressing the shift button, the center frequency for each was center, except for bass, whick was either 3-4 clicks back. I put it back to center. Doesn't really matter where it is at the moment, because I keep the bass flat when it is not-in-shift-mode.

I am sure some of that will change the more I play with it over the next few days. Weekend is coming up, maybe spend some time fiddling and twiddling the RH750 knobs.

I do notice that if I put on more Tubetone, then it's possible a small boost in bass may be necessary.

2 or 3 clicks from full counter-clockwise.

4 clicks to the left is the default for the bass on the RH750, which is 200 hz. 4 clicks to the right of center on treble is also the default.

True, which is because the additional harmonic content becomes more apparent in the mids, making the bass seem a bit more tame by default. Rather than boosting bass, my preferred strategy is to scoop the mids just a touch around 600-800 hz as I add more overdrive.

Thanks Eublet - consistent with my estimate.

Anyway, I got to play through it a bunch more today with my AE410 and Fodera Emperor. One thing I'm liking is the Tube Tone control. I'm not a tube kind of guy, but with the judicious application of a little of the Tube Tone, it creates a nice, rich tone without breaking up in that obnoxious Jack Bruce kind of way. The Spectra Comp tightens things up nicely. This amp is quickly working its way to being my favorite. I really like my Shuttle 9.0, but the RH750 has quite a bit more versatility. The 9.0 seems better suited to the AE212, but it's almost a push.

Hey Guys, besides TC and Bergantino cabs what other brands of cabs will the RH750 match up well with?
I had really good luck with the GK Neo112-II cabs. Those tend to have really great organic low end, which partners well with the tighter low end of the RH heads. Also, those cabs are pretty bright on the high end which helps bring out the smoother high end of the RH heads.

Getting a little wound up now. Paid in full for my first RH750, made popping noises. 2nd got here from TC, again problems - very strange vibrating / catching fan.

Emailed TC and UK importers 3 times for a date on third unit and confirmation it's a new unit, still no response. Store is chasing it.

Both units had small marks on the casing yet were sealed.

Its had two strikes. If it gets a third strike, I'm giving up and getting a refund. My RH450 was perfect, and I've not had an amp I paid for in full for 6-8 weeks now.

Love TCs gear, love the RH amps, but this third one needs to turn up ASAP and be right this time :(

Sounds like karma issues to me. Have you been a good boy lately?
