TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

My "showband" played a rare weeknight gig last night at the Bellevue Hyatt-Regency (near Seattle). It was for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. I didn't expect a rockin' crowd -- boy was I wrong! We played a half-hour extra and they still demanded an encore! Whoodathot?

I sounded GREAT (I'm talkin' tone here :p) playing my Sadowsky NYC J5 through the RH-750 into a Bergantino AE 410. Clean, punchy, focused sound for days, and plenty crisp for the slap stuff. Our encore was "Brickhouse" (their request), and I cranked the SpectraComp about 4 or 5 clicks. What a great "springy" sound!

And this amp is loud. I realize that the potentiometer position is not an indicator of output, reserve, etc.. That said, my input channel was at about 11 o'clock and my master vol was at maybe 10 o'clock. There was clearly plenty of real power in reserve, and I was loud enough to peel paint! This amp/cabinet combination is amazing!

Okay -- back to work!
Greg

Well, after doing all the homework (and financial math) I`ve just acquired a RH750. I won`t be using it for a while (logistics issues) so now it`s time to get a nice cab to match it. Right now a GK 212 (not sure about a Neo or MBE) and RS210 are the top candidates.

Thanks everybody for all the detailed input !!

I'll actually be using my RH750 with my two GK Neo112-II cabs tonight at a gig. I also currently have an RS210 I can plug into, but can't take to the gig. I'll try to give some info on them tomorrow or Saturday. Based on what I've done so far, I believe the GK's will sound bigger and brighter, but the TC's will sound a bit punchier through the mids... more focused, with a smoother more classic high end.

Slammed at work this week and have stuff going on every night. Rehearsal last night, gig tonight, plans tomorrow night, two gigs Saturday, and one Sunday morning.

I'll be passing out cold sometime Sunday evening, but it'll be with a smile on my face. :)

That`s a nice way of staying busy :)

Please let me me know your impressions once you have the chance to test it with the GK Neo.

I strongly recommend the RS210. I have tried it with MB 2X10 traveller and GK212 but the sound from a pair of RS210 seems to be the best to my ears.

If you're decided to take RS210, let me know, I have a mint condition one that I am going to sell soon!

My simple report. I had a gig last night with a three RS210 setup. oh man.... it was just huge!! I really enjoyed the rich spectrum of the bass tone yesterday. I went with quite higher output than I used to but the loud volume was not bothering at all of us including our very picky sound guy because that loud volume gave us rich bassness (not just the boomy and muddy huge volume that normally gives headache) at the bar and it fitted really well with the sound our band was producing. We played some funky vibes with lots chops and odd meter. The spectra comp really did a great job at this part. Each notes were kicking so hard so we got amazing tightness in our music and the drummer really loved the tone he could create with me. There were two other bass players at the bar last night and then they told me that they really loved the sound. Yeah, I got a phone call from one of them today that he decided to buy the RH750 and he already finished his order at GC dot com.

I am going to have another gig today. It'll be a jazz trio. I will bring my RS112 this time. Yea, I'm sure I will really enjoy tonight!

Hey all,

Searched through the thread and could not find this info.

I have a Classic 450. Thinking about the RH750.

I have read about the Tweetertone and the other tweaks between the RH450 and the RH570.

Is there any fundamental tonal difference in the actual preamp of the RH450 and RH570 ?

Thanks

Nope.

Sweet! I'd love to play through a rig like this!
Were the cabs stacked vertically or horizontally?

Thanks Vic.

Really thinking about jumping up from the Classic to the 750. Just wished the RH's didn't have those annoying red LEDs. I guess I could break out the electrical tape !!
Meh, I actually like the LEDs, but honestly, even if someone didn't, I'd think it still wouldn't be worth masking them... remember, you need them to help you gauge adjustment. If it really is an issue for a given venue/gig, just place the amp equally accessible, but not forward facing to the audience if need be. IMHO anyway.

I haven't yet had the chance to revisit the RS210, but I'll do that tonight after I get home and I'll post up on that vs the GK this evening. FYI.

The lights don't bother me, but if I use it on a theater stage I do have to cover them so that they don't show during black out. The foot switch makes it easy to switch between settings and tune even when you can't see the front of your head.

So to my ears, the diffs between the RS210 and the GK New112-II are kinda' what I predicted.

The RS210 is much smoother in the highs... almost dull sounding for fingerstyle, but really sweet for slap, and not a lot of low end extension, but a thick low mid push.

The GK Neo112-II cab is much more of a wider and more even soundscape. It has bigger lows and much more prominent highs, and no bump in the mids. The fingerstyle tone is nice and brilliant and detailed, but the slap tone is harsh unless you drop the high end on the amp or the bass.

Personally, I much prefer the GK's, because I'm used to dropping the highs with the passive tone control (or active treble cut) for the limited slapping I do anyway, and I like a more brilliant fingerstyle tone. Plus, the cabs produce enough low end I can actually ask less of the amp down there and let it spend those watts on mid punch as needed. Also, I'd much rather have a rig that was bright enough that the only thing I'd ever do with the highs is cut... rather than have a rig that was too smooth up top and try to boost highs to get the clarity up there I crave.

Of course all this is VERY MUCH personal preference. IMHO, for the classic type of sound the RH is designed for, the RS is a good matchup if you want to continue down that road. In my case, I prefer to go more middle of the road by complimenting the classic tone of the RH with a more modern sounding GK.

Anyway, FWIW and of course only IMHO/IME.

Vic; That is exactly my experience re: TC head with GK neo cabs. In the past I have found my neo cabs (212, 115) too brittle with my more modern SS heads - but the low pass on the TC (classic for me) seems to compliment the GK's highs sooo well. While I am perfectly happy with the low end on me classic 450, I wouldn't want to lose any of it too a more low mid oriented cab. Lovin the TC-GK matchup.
