Yeah, they look like they'll work, but I want to be sure. I can't find any info on the radius of the corners (on Mojo and other sites too).
BTW looks like Geddy uses Mojo for his pickup maintenence!![]()
Hey I was wondering if any can help me here, about 2 weeks ago I can across some Specs for the GP series preshape,(the amount of Boost and cut and the Feq that they are boosted and Cut@
Searched around today and can't find them agian.
I'm building a DIY preamp, bassed on the GP series. going with a Parametric EQ section insteed of the graphic.
I have schematics for GP7sm. I think I saw the speces in a Youtube video, in the comments, any help will be greatly appercatied.
Hi, just to progress with my report:
The box is back, the tech told me that the "dust caps" were not properly attached to the membrane and that the 4 fixation brackets were too close to the membrane and maybe blocked the membrane when it wanted to go for the whole excursion. Apart from that, the speakers are in perfect conditions. The bass reflex ducts were also loose. He charged me 30, telling me that, in case of further problem related to the speakers, he would subtract the 30 to the new repair cost. I think it´s fair...
I brought the box back to the rehearsal room and... something happened.
After plugging everything in as always, I switched the gear on and i heard a very "windy" distorsion sound, at low volume. Then I run to the amp again, switched off, unplugged and re-plugged in all cables (speakers and power supply), checked both fuses (main and speakers) it was all ok.
I re-switched the amp on and started playing. Could not believe my ears, the overall volume of my rig was half the usual volume!!!! Half!
I started the usual tests:
- using just the bass with another instrument cable
- using just the 1x15" box
- using just the 2x10" box
- switching the position of the speaker plugs in both amp sockets
- disconnecting my pedal board and going with the bass directely in the amp
- ...
- playing with an electrical guitar in my amp
- ...
nothing, the amp is giving out half of the power whatever I do
I then played my bass in another amp in the room, no problem, everything is great and working.
So... I think something in the amp got fried.
What could be the cause? i can only remember that, while the 2x10 was at the techs, I tried to implement some hints I have been reading here in TB about "amp having too little headroom and causing the speakers to distort". What I did is to drive the gain up until the clipping red LED was on once every 5-6 beats....

I read quite a few of the subsequent posts after this one. I didn't see where this was ever resolved. Did it? The reason why I ask is because I have a 1028 now doing the same thing. . . that is 'windy distortion at low volume'. I've isolated it to one of the 10" drivers in the 1028. When the original report was posted, the thread got off onto a tangent about tubes going out. In my case, I have ruled out the head by plugging the cab into another head - same noise. I plugged the rig into another cab to rule everything else out - no noise. I can't crank up the amp right now without waking up my family but when I get a chance, I will see if I can detect distortion from this driver at performance volume.
So, I think I have a blown driver. I'm scratching my head a bit because I am driving this cab with a GP7SM250 (250W, right?) and the cab is rated for 400W. Also, I usually run a 1x15 with it in parallel. Doesn't seem like I should be able to blow one of these drivers.
Before I order a replacement, I wanted to see if there is something else I should be investigating.
Fast forward to now, all the pots are clean and scratchy free but intermittently I get a bit of static out of the amp, when I am not touching the controls at all. It does it even if the master is turned completely off. Could it be the tube in the output section is going south or is it likely that the master pot still needs attention? Any other thoughts of what to check?
Check that the pins on the tubes, and the sockets are clean, and that the tubes are well seated.
Also, how old are the tubes?
Thanks, sharkwagon.I don't know if there is a resister or anything in line on those combos or not, but a quick test would be to pull one driver out, switch the leads from one drive to the other (assuming they are clips and not soldiered) Unless there is a fuse or resister of any sort on the driver itself, and the issue stays with the driver, it is most certainly a blown speaker. If it moves to the other driver it is something in the wiring between the output section of the amp and the driver.
