Hello TB and Trace Elliot users!
got two issues, one technical and one just fun:
- First: I bought a 2103H used but in mint conditions 6 months ago, after trying it out. Already while trying it out at the former owner's, i noticed that at high volume the cab distorted. I thought it was because of the huge head that was driving it. I can't remember what it was, anyway a big Mesa Boogie.
Well I took the risk and bought it for 250. The condition was like it was still in the shop...
Very good, I took it in my rehearsal room and after like 10 sessions, yes, it DID distort big time. I drive it through a TE AH200, and my settings are 3-4 for the input and 3-4 for the master. I use it in a full stack with a 1510H.
During a gig i used my stack as my backline and it was a pain in the arse, since i could not increase the volume because of distortion and I had to only rely on the monitors.
Today I brought the amp and the 2103H to a tech. He first checked the speakers for mechanical failure (membrane mainly). But nothing. He checked the back plate for dissolded cables. nothing. He was skeptical and he told me to play in it with my bass. It DID distort, mainly on the lowest freqs and by pushing hard on the string.
He will now check thoroughly the speakers for detached parts in the area of the magnet and so on.
worst case scenario is of course "defect" speakers. Now I have checked at britishaudioservice.com, and the pair would be at around 170 dollars plus shipping to germany.
Question to you is: is there a "better" choice than to replace them with the original ones? Better in terms of loadability and allowed power or peaks endurance? It is absolutely not my field of knowledge.
- second point is: when will I get my Trace Elliot Member Number?
