Team Trace Elliott Pt 3

The speaker xlr doesn't have a worldwide standard. Trace did them different from the norm that Jansen in NZ chose, and they were focused on US gear.

I always urge caution with xlr as you never know what may have been rewired, and the leads tend to loosen up.

I'll check mine when I get home later. No substitute for checking your own. I don't even know if US Trace kept the same pin pattern.
Ah, Ok.
I built mine myself going off the pin config on the amp and speaker plates.
Someone mentioned that theirs were backwards and didn't seem to be getting full power out of the system.

Home with another 1048H...

I'm very new to Trace Elliot. I've always been intrigued by the look and tone of these heads.

Does anyone know where I can get info on the older heads?
Any models I should look at/avoid?

Are their amps all SS, or is it a tube pre?

British audio service has a lot of info on TE amps, and a lot of the original manuals in PDF form. Not all of there heads are/were SS. Some have tube pre's. They made all tube heads as we'll (v4, v6, v8, quadravalve, hexavalve, etc..) I've never had one that I didn't like, but I prefer the 7 band models.

The GP12smx series is probably the best of Trace Elliot in the hybrid type.

It's pretty much what they were trying to replicate in their current flagship amp model. The AH1200 - 12 / AH600 - 12

I see GP12smx with the phrase
AH350smx

OR

RAH350smx

I assume one is a rackable version?

Why does this unit go under GP-12 smx and AH350smx?

Total Veer Alert -

You bought a GTX 780? I hate you! How is it?

Back OT - someday, I'd like to have a 1028H on top of a 1048, and a V4 or V6 (being at least semi-realistic here) powering them. Someday...

Ha! Ya! The GTX,,,
There's a story behind that! But, hey! It's black and green like Trace Elliot!

Without looking at the links, gp12smx is the preamp style 12band eq smx compressors etc, ah is regular sleaved case, rah is rackmount.

Gp12smx is also a standalone preamp, not all smx amps have the whole set of loops and di's, only some of the bigger ones afaik.

Trace had two different ways of refering to their amps...

- GP12SMX refers to the preamp section; 12-band EQ, SMX compressor; does not note the power amp's output

- AH350SMX refers to an Amp Head rated@350 watts RMS; does not note the pre's config

Amps can/will be be listed either way, and you kinda have to know what the different 'codes' mean to understand what you're looking at.

Okay, so the GP12SMX is a tube preamp with the SS AH350SMX power amp?

How does this amp caompare to that of makers such as GK and Eden?
