I have come to love the Trace Elliot amps, I have AH500x, and the black light still works...
I have searched and searched, (please feel free to yell at me for asking about something that I am sure has been covered before), where can I get those white slider caps for the graphic eq?

thanks

Howard

Thanks, you know I looked at that site too, I am getting old...

Hello Trace Followers,

I already posted my question in a seperate Thread
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/old-trace-elliot-1518-red-stripes-needs-new-driver-1045146/ but Downunderwonder encouraged me to link it here, to keep the Trace Elliot Informations together.

I already looked up Part I,II & III for Speaker Suggestions for my unequipped 1518, so i already know that the Eminence 3015 should be a good choice.
If you look up my Thread, there a few more like 2 Celestions, which where recommended from Celestion as replacement, Eminence Kappa Pro, and faital pro 15pr400.

The Box will be fired with an old german superbass-clone hybrid amp with 140w or an uknown near future 300W oldschool solid state amp.

At the moment everything speaks for the 3015 but dont know why - the faital seems to be a good choice, too? They both often mentioned and there were also an A/B comparison here - i will look it up.
Thank You for reading and your replies.

British Audio Service - BAS
has the specially designed for Trace Elliot - Trace Elliot branded Celestion 500watt replacements for the 1518. I bought one about a year ago...

You'll have a hard time getting a real TE fan to suggest anything other than a direct replacement TE Designed Speaker from Celestion.

But if you must...
you must know what the cubic feet of the cab is and if the speaker will operate at optimal levels or not. Otherwise, you may have a muddy sound from a mismatched speaker/cab combination.

DUW, I couldn't find an nos 15" for my 1518 after fedex dropped it and froze the driver magnet. So, I had to order the new 500 watter from BAS. It seems to be working out pretty we'll.
do you know if or what the difference is in cubic feet between the old double port red stripes and the new bottom slot 1518 cabs?

I know zippity about the new one for certain, but beleive they are tuned a bit lower. Boxes look about same size.

What's the deal with red stripes? It looks like they went out of fashion while Kaman was in charge, or there are some real retro beatup Gibson cabs out there.

It would be interesting if you can be bothered bouncing some rice on your 500w version to get the tuning frequency. Should be close to 40hz iirc. Your ports are 6" deep?

Hello,
Got straight from work on the pc until now... consuming a WinISD tutorial and comparing Speakers - learning by doing.
Now i know much more, but didnt find finally a solution.

Suggesting 6cf for the 1518 brings following "facts":

The Faital reaches xmax at 41Hz and 62Hz @ 200W tuned to 48Hz
with a close 2dB peak around +/- 55Hz
SPL ~ 121dB

The Eminence 3015 reaches xmax at ~40Hz @ 200W tuned to 45Hz
SPL ~123B

For both speakers f3~42Hz and f6~39Hz

The Celestions lacked trough their small xmax of power handling -they're better for smaller boxes though.

Any suggestions for another Fullrange 15" with even more xmax than the Emi or Faital?

Or better - what parameters frequencys to aim?

Good Night Guys.

Nothing budget friendly with stronger performance!

Some other salient facets:

The old stock 1518 Celestion farts out on low fundamentals but gets good and loud something above 60hz. It catches low D 2nd harmonic real well, unlike most cabs of its era. I don't know the xmax but your 3015 / faital should bury it for volume, I like the tone of the Celestion For Trace just fine. Johnk_10 clips of his Starliner 2x 3015 sounded good...ymmv.

Iirc the old one was 40hz tuning with both ports open. 6" ports.

WinISD predicts a little long on the tube length in general, again iirc, respective to a desired tuning frequency. Search winisd predict/predicted/prediction/predicts.

Trace recommended.sealing the ports with provided "drain" plugs if lowend extension was wanted, at the expense of volume potential.

The modern drivers can do very well in smaller boxes if you protect them with a highpass where the port unloads. What you save on the free cabinet you pay carting the donk.

I prefer to carry mine solo to save on getting yanked off balance by the helper. Going up stairs I hitch it up onto my knees.

Due The fact that there where also 1518 which where equipped with fane drivers, i Will have a look @ their colossus or sovereign (pro) range.Maybe here's someone with an oldstock 1518 / fane combination? I will mail to fane directly, too.

EDIT:

Cab arrived today!
Inside Volume of 137,6 liter ~ 4,86 cf
Port Diameter 102mm ~ 4 inch
Port Length 50mm ~ 2 inch

Let's get ready to rumble!

Simulated Emi and Faital - no bigger changes at all.

Faital still limited to 200watt (xmax 5,8mm)
tuned to 47Hz ...... f3 of 43Hz

Eminence limited to 250watt (xmax 5,9mm)
tuned to 47Hz ..... f3 of 46Hz

Fane Sovereign Pro 15-600 limited to 250watt (xmax 6mm)
tuned to 47Hz ..... f3 of 45Hz

Emi and Fane will become ~2B louder than the Faital, due larger power handling, but he's also the strongest between 40-60Hz.

The Fane Sovereign Pro 15-600 seems pretty interesting to me, (only 125€) but im quite not sure about frequency range.

Eminence seems so far the best solution, but personally i would prefer the Faital or Fane.

So long for today again.
