Hey gang, any Trace cab wiring gurus? I picked up an old 1048 cab and something didn't sound right. I popped her open to find this....

After soldering the leads back, I checked the ohm rating and it read 10.7 Ohms for the whole cab.?? Should be 8 Ohms per the label on the cab. Something still does not sound right. It sounds like the lower left speaker is hitting harder than the rest. Any help is greatly appreciated.
10.7ohm DCR isn't out of the ball park by any means. Most likely these will be a parallel pair of series 8 ohm drivers.

Jack ~ +0- ~ +0- ~ jack
~ +0- ~ +0- ~

Looks like someone did some janky wiring there. The problem Your having could stem from a few things.
1) The cab could be wired incorrectly, and could need a complete rewire. The condition of what's there would lead Me to believe that someone who had no clue about what they were doing, has been messing around with it.
This is how I would think it should be wired:

2) You could potentially have a bad speaker, throwing the cab impedance out of whack. If that is the case, I would recomend getting the correct replacement speaker and not any old 10" speaker. You can test the individual speakers by using the 9 volt battery method. OEM spec replacement speakers are available from these Guys:http://www.britishaudioservice.com/parts.php?mfg=1&cat=17

Hope that helps, and best of luck!

Well I sent my AH500x's preamp off to British Audio Services and have decided to go back to using that head full-time once it returns.

The input jacks had been completely used up and now the graphic and preshape buttons will actually function too! Minor life victories here.

I love the sound my 400+ delivers, but the Trace has some undeniable power.

I think Peavey has their own problems right now. With the influx of Chinese music equipment and the down economy, making money selling US or UK made gear is a tough business these days. The current "50s/60s vintage retro" trend is selling Fenders, Orange Amps and Gibsons but not helping Peavey too much. Also the low price of Peavey's older US made guitars and amps on the used market works against their new sales as well. Hopefully they survive because they and TE both make great albeit mostly under appreciated gear.

+1
I've had Peavey keyboard amps and bass amps. They sound good, are built to last, have decent features, and are reasonably priced. They're not glamorous enough for a lot of people, especially younger guys, but for gigging musicians (not high school shredders in basements), they're great.

Went to a local music shop looking for a cab, they had an old SWR Goliath II 410, a busted up Yamaha 410, a Behringer 410 which the owner wouldn't even let me look at the price tag and told me to keep looking, and a TE in almost new condition with no marks, or wear, or anything and was only $30 more than the Goliath with questionable performance.

Long story short, I need mah number pleease :D

Now, to put a hole in the back for a Speakon connection or use the existing 1/4? decisions...

Welcome Nox, member number 208.
1/4" have never given me any trouble.
