Team Trace Elliott Pt 3

Thank you very much for your info, Downunder.

I already bought it a few months ago.
About the cabs:
I have a 2x10 with 2 6" tube ports. This one has 2 Trace Elliot speakers. It's 200Watt.
Also I have the compact version of the 1x15, without any tube ports, it's like the onefaviobarrio owns, but without the tube ports, this cab has a celestion speaker. This one also is 200Watt

I'd like to have just some basic information, like the age and maybe some other handy facts, if they are any!

About the amps:
It's the gp12xv pre amp, I don't know how much watt exactly, I thought around 150W?

The poweramp is the RA300.

What would be a good price for all this stuff, I'm just wondering, no heavy thoughts of selling all of it.

Cheers,

Does that mean I get #210.

I'm not familiar with xv.

GP12 means it is late 80.s to early 90.s

When you said it was a preamp with the power amp I assumed it was the whizzbang stereo pre with all the goodies. Got pics? preamps don't have any Watts to speak of.

just bought RA 500 sx + TE GP12smx.

I am new to this kind of setup (always used combo) and I would need help on choosing Cabs and on setting the system up.

This power amp gives 250 W per channel @ 4 OHM.

Now my doubts are:

better to use a stereo or mono setup, this cab has a crossover so if used in stereo the sounds possibilities are great.

mono would be easier for me in this moment as would be less expensive to buy 1 cab and in the future is always possible to expand the system.

if I choose mono, on which channel and how to connect my cab, I have a mono button on the amp.

If I choose stereo how to set it up considering the built in crossover?

Which cab you would choose, how many WATTS and OHM?

I am close to order a Markbass 2x10 Standard 102HF-4 Ohms.

Sorry for my questions, a bit dumb :rollno: I would really need your help for a good setup.

Thanks a lot!

As I said on your thread, I would go with 8 ohm cab, just in case you change amps, borrow another, have yours in for service etc. The difference in useful output is minimal.

Welcome to the Team Trace, you can post a pic and get a number if you like.

thanks Downunderwonder,

I could take the same model @ 8 ohm but it's the same Watt, do you think this does not affect at all?

I can still switch model.

Why you think it would be better if I decide to change amp? No more amp @ 4 ohm?

Thanks for the info.

I would hope you are as happy with your amp as I am with mine. It has only failed once on me ( my own fault ), but you never know when you will need to plug your cabs into another amp. If the other amp is a regular bass amp with a single channel it will likely only do 4ohm. Assuming you were running two cabs at that stage you would have to use only one.

The rule of thumb with cabs is half the thermal power rating gives you the real world flat eq full power without distortion rating. So the 400W Markbass could be considered a 200W cab when looking at amps. I haven't noticed any startling claims to the contrary from Markbass users when this sort of thing is discussed.

Someone tested a Trace 250 and it put out 180W RMS clean at 8 ohm. The peak power rating on these things is for real. Figure on 360W with little distortion, I haven't ever heard any from mine. Basically it is under rated by modern standards.

Adding two and two I would eat my hat if you can't easily get the 8 ohm 2x10 to fart out while the amp itself is still clean, meaning there is zero advantage to having a 4 ohm one.

But man, MB cabs aren't cheap. You could get a lot more oomf for your money going used.

Just picked up a UK-made GP 12 SMX preamp. More features than I can use in a lifetime, including 2 pre-shape options, EQ shift, and dual band compressor. We're still on the honeymoon but I think she'll work out well. I've been able to coax the more useful tones by engaging the #1 pre-shape and molding the GEQ around the contour.
