TecAmp amplification club.....is there such a thing yet

I see, Well... So much for that theory! ;-)

In that case id experiment with cutting lo and hi and boosting both mids to different degrees to see if the midrange response can be sufficiently wrangled with the frequency points and slopes of the pumas mid controls

Hi people, first post here so be gentle!

Just got myself a tecamp puma 500, first impressions are really good. I do have question to you who own these new 1u pumas though:

how is the noise level through the headphones???

In mine there is a quite a lot of hiss and it increases when I turn the eq-knobs. Funny thing is that the hiss increases even when cutting, not just boosting. So smallest amount of hiss comes when the knobs are noon. I've tried different cables/basses/headphones etc. so I know that it's definately the amp. It's the loudest hiss I've heard through an amps headphone jack, louder than GK mb200 that I had which I thought was quite loud.

By the way, there is no hiss coming through the cabinet. Any thoughts?

I had the same experience with the headphone out on my new 900. Just checked it briefly, but i was pretty surprised by the noise/hiss/buzz. Luckily I have a separate headphone amp so it's no biggie for me, but still.. Wierd

Almost forgot to mention this. I cut a short bass riff direct into Logic, bounced it to an mp3 and sent it to a friend to use in a track he was working on. I used the Puma as my direct box, and tweaked a bit of the EQ on it, but left it bone dry otherwise. I got quite the compliment on the big, fat, clean tone. My bud said he just dropped the mp3 into his session and left it alone.

Thanks a lot for the replys guys! I've sent an email to tecamp and I'm going to contact the dealer also, just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with my unit.

I'll post some sort of review once I get to know this amp. So far it sounds great. I also have genz streamliner and also had the glockenklang blue soul for a while so I can do some little comparing. First impressions are great though, very "tubey" and punchy but still very clean, and much more "even"sounding than the streamliner. "Silky" I would say too :)

Guys I recently did a gig with my new Puma 500. Here is the link to my review. I have included pics of the venue to give you an ide of the room that it handled quite well. I bought mine from Donovan Bankhead at fretspot.com he is eager to get new customers and he is willing to make great deals pricewise. Give him a play. The room was absolutley beautiful but my sound was even better!!!!

From my experience, I had both a Puma 500 and a Puma 1000, the important ice level is quite commun on those amp.

To all Puma user with a tweeter equiped cab, a little thing to test :
plug your bass, set up gain level just before cliping and the master volume to 12 o'clock without playing. Everything else should stay flat...

Do you hear that nice wind ?
:)

Now just boost alternativvely the high mids and the trebles...

What do you think ?

Congrats. I hope you like your amp. For me and what I like in bass amps Tecamp is the bomb. I'm going to try my PUMA 500 with my Geddy Lee Jazz bass today. I am going to work on a song by Incognito called Colibri. Funky, percussive Jazz Bass in your face kind of song. However with the PUMA my sound will be much cleaner and clearer.

I have played through various iterations of the S212 at NAMM Shows, and I reviewed the S210 back when I did the Puma 1000 (original version) review, but I have not spent a lot of time with the S212. IME/IMHO, though the Tecamp cabs are really nice and on par with the best of the other lightweight 2x10/2x12's. Different voices, but still good stuff. I really like the different tweeter/crossover selection settings.

question x-post from another thread that is seeing no movement re the Jag 900:

With the Jag, there doesn't appear to be a headphone out, as on the Puma. Can it still be used without a speaker load, for silent direct recording?

Also, the 900w/4ohm rating on this is from running it in bridged mode (also 600w/8ohm), so would there be any issue using just a single channel rated @ 300w/4ohm to drive a small 8 ohm cab at ~150w? Perhaps something like a C8? That would give this beast quite the range.
