Plenty of booty with a pair of VL110s, even more fun with three but that was too much to haul around on regular basis. I still use a single one at home and the lows are pretty amazing with a good amp.

The vl110's came in yesterday, fantastic tone with one or two and a puma 900. Not a crazy amount of volume, but the midrange is a thing of beauty. They are a bit heavy by neo standards, but still a very easy 1 hand carry, and they are so tiny. I miss those spring loaded handles, always loved those and wished they were still popular... I'll post a pic later of the pair with the puma, small but mighty mighty!
I take out a little low mid to carve out some bulk, and add a tad of highs to open it up. Perfect tone for what I am after for this acoustic duo I have. Anyhoo, carry on!

Classic cabs, and definitely state of the art when they came out. Sounds like a nice rig for the context in which you are going to use them. Of course, I would have just gotten a Thunderchild 112 for that purpose, but the VL110's surely still sound great, especially if you have an amp with EQ controls that can soften that low mid bump, and open up the rather polite top end.... and you do!

It's seems a very serendipitous match up given the eq points on the puma and the high power of that amp. Yeah a TC 12 has been on my lust list and I'm sure would do the job wonderfully, but I couldnt pass up a pair of these mint vl's with covers shipped for 5 bills. I've been wanting to try them forever. Dig the old school banana jacks, I haven't owned a non speakon equipped cab in a decade

Just so everyone knows, the VL 110's weighed in at 37 lbs. According to the Tecamp site, the M212 weighs 44.9 lbs. so the weight difference is around 7 lbs. IME the VL 110 is such an extended rectangle horizontally, that it's really awkward to carry and puts a lot of stress on the arms, due to the way the weight of the low frequency driver being over to the right side of the cabinet. Ken's right though, with a non "Acoustic Friendly" Thunderchild 112 you shed 7 lbs. and can use a much lower powered amp.

Its not too heavy or awkward to me, its too small to be either. but yeah, compared to what I'm used to, they've got a good bit of density. Love the sound though, and the puma sounds killer with them.
As much as I wanted to pick up a TC112 for this application, I did try the puma 900 with an TC115AF and wasnt blown away. I think they have similar tonal attributes, so rather than complimenting one another, it sounded a little out of balance, not sure how to describe it, but the two together didn't sound as good as either piece with another rig.

I can totally understand this, as the Walter Woods Ultra and MI-400-8 sound incredible, with either the EA VL 108, or the EA VL 208. Seems that the Woods bright EQ voicing, and the darker EA cabinet voicing ( due in some part to the Transmission Line Design, I think) compliment each other, and create a great DB sound, and a nice old school EB timbre. For other players, using other amps with the EA's. it just doesn't work as well. Fortunately, the TC 112 is even better with either of the Woods amps, especially when doubling on both EB and DB. John Dong of EA informed me in a PM that their were four revisions of the VL 110 drivers. I'll see if I can fine that info. It's pretty interesting. Found it.

Thank you Ric, I knew about the 4 versions (ABC&D) but didnt know any particulars. Mine are B series, so I'm guessing 67oz magnets.
I'm looking forward to trying them with my other heads, a LMII, and a HBP-1/QSC rack rig.

My educated guess is that as you compared the four different versions. The cabs with the cast frame 10's would have a improved low frequency response, due to that larger magnet. JBL used Aluminum voice coils in their D 130's and Copper voice coils in their D 140's. I would think that the change in voice coil composition would change the voice (timbre) of the cabinet. John is always looking for ways to improve the sound of Euphonic Audio's products. He's very knowledgeable, and is interesting to chat with. EA has incredible customer support, and builds a great product.

no doubt. over the years I've had a few EA pieces that have needed repairs, and John has been stellar about covering even non-warrantied issues. I remember buying a used cxl-112, and a month or so later when the driver bit the dust, john sent me a replacement free of charge. now thats service!
I think I read somewhere that the C version is the one to get, due to the larger magnet and heavier voice coil making it "more efficient" with "better low end response". Either way... I'm happy.

John's one of the good guys. Always ready to help. I remember replacing both 8" drivers on my VL 208. At the time. I was considering changing 16 ohm ones, for a set of 8 ohm ones, to lower the cabinet to 4 ohms. John informed me that "I could indeed do that but the cabinet would sound darker". I opted not to do that on based on his recommendations as the 8 ohm version matched so well with both of my Walter Woods Amps.
Now that's interesting, I think I'll shoot John an email and inquire about getting a replacement driver for my VL 110. I've never been totally happy with the sound of that cabinet, mated with a Walter Woods and Double Bass. It's in a word, not well defined on lower notes IMHO. I prefer a tighter bass response. Probably, why I like the TC 112 so much. Although I'll have to admit the VL208, VL110 stack is a nice match. It just has to much low end, coming from the VL 110 IME.

Fwiw i traded some emails before snagging these vl's to inquire about the existence of replacement drivers. This was johns reply: "We no longer have new replacement woofers but we still stock the midranges and the tweeter diaphragms are available from several places. You can have woofers reconed by Meniscus Audio(www.meniscusaudio.com) just have them contact me so I can provide them with the necessary soft parts."

Aw shucks, I don't think it would be worth re coning the speaker, since there would be no way to up the magnet. Thanks for the info. I'll have a chat with John sometime.
My thought is, it's time to sell it. Now I'm really glad I replaced the 8" woofers in the VL 208. I guess there's just no way to keep stocking parts for discontinued cabinets, because
Euphonic Audio had those drivers custom built specifically for their cabinets. That's why they sound so great. Thanks very much for the info.

Interesting. I have a Puma 500 and a EBS Reidmar and I had thougths about the Glockenklang Blue Soul. What do you think of it?

The later ones came with speakons. All three of mine have them. You definitely got a deal on the pair for $500.
Given the right amp these little cabs can sound amazing... and they definitely need a robust amp to get them going. They work extremely well with my Markbass LMII and Kustom KXB500. Piece of cake with this setup too...

Try the Kustom KXB500. A real sleeper.
The Glock was too neutral and uncolored to me, also felt like it was lacking some "punch". Nice head for sure but not the one for me. I really like "clean"sounding heads that let your basses voice come through, but with the blue soul I felt that the synergy between the bass and the amp wasn't there for me. My Sandberg sounded "good" through it but my passive p with flats sounded too sterile and lackin "soul". Also it was a lot bigger and heavier than what I thought it would be, not really a micro head. Really wanted to like that head but ended up sending it back within the 30 days return period that the shop had.
just got a chance to take a quick rip with my Jag 900 through a Mesa 8X10 (bridged @ 4 ohm) at the Mesa Hollywood shop. Jebus. Fat, clear, dynamic, quiet, HUGE! Do want, but need a better reason.
