Tech 21 bass fly rig

The chorus in this guy's demo videos sounds markedly better than the one in the namm demo. To me, that one sounded like too much pitch shift, and lots of what sounded like pre-delay, tho a pitch shift chorus shouldn't use delay. This one sounds usable. My corona mini is already on my gtr player's board. He's got a flyrig RK5, btw. Sounds great direct.

OK, so mine arrived. Just spent thirty min or so messing with it. Mine seems much like yours, sansamp, comp, boost, chorus, tuner, all good. For me, the octafilter section is essentially useless. The filter in and of itself is ok, at best. The fuzz is like a sputtery gated fuzz. It cuts off notes way early. Barely opens when doing Sheehan-esque tapping stuff. Octave is very synthy/fake sounding, and tracks nowhere near as well as it would need to in order to be useful faking real keyboard bass. Wanna do a Michael Anthony "synth noise" solo? Great. Want to play, for instance, the bass line in "don't you want me, baby" which is quick, tight, articulate, no chance in hell. Will I keep it?? Probably. Am I thrilled with it? Not really. I faked synth bass much better with my tender octaver, even tho that one is too clean. I'll try to get a good video up in the next few days. So far, the jury is out. It IS small, and will cover 90% of my needs. That said, so will my MXR M80 with a cheap tuner, and they're already paid for.

I would bet one US dollar that they didn't have any actual working bass players who play articulate synth parts work with them in developing this unit. No disrespect to Andrew, John, or any of the other guys from Tech21, but they are guitar players.

After working with mine today, I got the octafilter to work a little better but there's no way it can replace a decent octave or distortion pedal. It seems like it was designed mainly to generate synthy quasi envelope filter sounds, like that is something everone needs? So I'm guessing mines not broken, it's just not designed to be a great clean octaver (doesnt track well on high notes either..semi passable in the middle register) or a quality distortion. I like everything else on the pedal alot though and might keep it. I am taking it to a gig tonight to give it a try through my main rig.

Agreed, it seems like they concentrated on making it sound like a moog on notes that are held for several seconds. That's not real world, for me anyway. Filter alone is ok. Fuzz and octave, either alone or combined, no bueno. The rest of the pedal is good, just not sure how much I need an "almost what we said it would do" pedal.
