Tech 21 Club

I believe that I have solved the problem of my big feet. Just hit the big button!

Switched to Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, although I was worried that my DP3X wouldn't sound nearly as good as it did with rounds.
Elated to report that I had no reason to be! Still sounds present and full, and just as wonderfully clanky as before!

The DP3X saves me lots of money on strings because it restores the clang to stale ones! I'm now overdue for string changes on a few basses... should take care of that at some point.

That's the exact reason I switched to the CF's!

My strings were old and not exactly pretty, although I was cleaning them. I figured if flats still get the tone, I can be lazier about replacing them!

Since we're on the subject: two weeks ago I went to see a power trio, all friends of mine. The bassist invited me to sit in for a few songs, and I played his Moollon 5 string J bass. It turned out to be strung with flats, and I told him later that I was impressed with the tone, especially the B string that sounded great even at the 12th fret. He said it was a set of EB Cobalts.

Has any experienced this - Tech 21 Geddy lee Di-2112, no power; other pedals were on - on my pedal board; plugged my godylyke power adapter straight into the Di-2112 and no power (this was setting up for a live gig), keep trouble shooting, then it came back on with the original 9v plug on the daisy chain of the godylyke power; been using this set up for over 3 years with no issues; I just don't know what the initial cause was. Worked no problem during the gig.

I just don't want it to power down in the middle of a gig.

Just discovered this thread, been a lurker for a long time but have been playing live more regularly lately and therefore using my tech 21 gear more regularly, which I love.
I have a few Character series, a few of the Character Plus, and my main "amp", a VT Deluxe.

I guess the reason I'm posting this is to highlight one of their newer pieces. I was so impressed last night at a rehearsal using the English Muffy direct into a board, and I don't know who to talk to about it, haha.
It was a last minute rehearsal with my band and a new drummer, and I was totally unprepared with little time to fix that.
I sped home after work and managed to grab an old beater pbass and the Muffy (my rig is currently at a different band's lockout).
The rehearsal went off without a hitch, new drummer rocked and heard my bass clearly, and our guitar player was kinda into the new tone.

I kept the character knob a little under noon and the drive knob at 10 o'clock and I fit in the mix perfectly after cutting the highs and mids a bit. The lows set to noon were perfect, deep but punchy, and overall the tone was clear but with some hair on it, i loved it. I had been using it to record guitar for the past few months, never really used it on bass, but I couldn't believe how easy it was to dial in.

Oh and the built-in Big Muff wasn't bad either, I use an EHX nano Green Russian on my board so I'm already used to the muff thing and the one in the English Muffy is pretty good on bass.
One thing I'll mention for anyone using it in a live band context, I initially set the tone on the muff more towards the 10 o'clock side of the dial, cus that's what I do on my green muff. But it wasn't quite fitting in our mix, it felt like it was turning into noise that got drowned out by everything else in the room when I clicked it on. After the second or third song, I set the tone knob closer to 2 o'clock and voila! There's our fuzz bass! Didn't touch the pedal the rest of the rehearsal.

Anyway, hope I'm able to make into the club, y'all seem cool.

As I understand it, since the Character Plus series was designed as a guitar not bass pedal it's based on a DR103 (and not a bass amp head), and the speaker sim is based on a Fane guitar cab. So I'd suspect you're leaking some low end when using it, but I don't have personal experience. In an old thread someone said it's basically the discontinued Tech21 Leeds pedal but with an added Muff circuit.

Oh, for sure! I think most of the Character line of pedals were intended for guitar primarily, but considering the EQing is done post-sansamp I think you'd probably be able to use them on bass and get pretty decent results. Especially if you disengage the speaker sim on those V2's.

I actually own an old Leeds pedal (stays at home in the box, haha), both that and the English Muffy come with sample settings in the manual inspired by John Entwistle, so I always felt like I could try it on bass, just never did until last night.

Worked in a pinch with minimal effort, so I'm happy to sing the English Muffy's praises.

Updated my home "studio" rack. Previously just had a 1U version and only had my VTRM in it, but lately due to some style shifts I've been reaching for the RBI a bit more often. I figured I might as well formally add it in - along with the tuner that I didn't think I would miss due to having one in my DAW (I did miss it).

Sweet! If you're interested in an unusual and useful way of wiring your two SansAmp preamps, check out this thread. I did this (parallel wiring) back when I was rack rigging. RBI, RPM, and VT-RM are all compatible.

Something cool for Sansamp RBI/RPM users...
