Here's my SansAmp RPM rack setup. Been my main rig for the last 20yrs or so. Had to add rack isolators, electrical tape in between the units, and a hum-X ground adapter to quiet this beast down. No ground hum or noise thanks to a hidden noise gate pedal in the back before the amp.

In my very first post here, I noted that I had a difficult decision on my hands as to where to put this thread, since then I've started to feel like it might be better served being in the Effects forum, with the below being probably the final nail in the coffin in case I had any remaining doubts:

@Chris Fitzgerald what do you think, would the Talkbass powers-that-be be amenable to such a request at this point in time? Not a huge deal if not, I'm just considering where it might fit best given the current usage of TB and its forum organization.

Hey friends, I've really been enjoying my VT Bass DI, and I'd like to get something equally useful for guitar that I can just plug into my mixer and start playing. Anyone have strong opinions about the Screaming Blonde from the Character Plus series? I saw that Sweetwater has a good deal on those right now (while supplies last ), so I'm thinking about pulling the trigger soon.

Josh from JHS did a video on the Character Plus series, focusing on using it with guitar, and he called the Screaming Blonde probably the most useful combo of the series for guitar. He shows off the Screaming Blonde around the 41-min mark and uses the D.I.

That's great, thanks for the link! It's really incredible how good that sounds going direct into a board.

I ultimately couldn't resist the deal... the Screaming Blonde seems like it'll go great with the new (to me) Reverend guitar I picked up a couple days ago. Forums aside, I'm trying to be a little less digital (or at least modern) with my technology right now, and it's refreshing to play analog equipment from Tech 21. We all know that digital can sound really good now, but there's still something about the immediacy of analog equipment that makes it feel fun to play.

Thanks again for the link, @FretRiff!

Hello !
I use a Sansamp Bassdriver V2 setting with very little drive: 9h for a clean tube tone. What pedal should I use before to boost the sound a little without adding distortion or just a light drive? I have a Boss GEB 7 possibly.

GEB-7 seems like it could do the job, just boost the level and see where it ends up. From there, you can always try cutting a couple frequencies if they become problematic/start introducing more distortion than you want.

Personally, I’d back off the volume on my bass a little bit to give myself headroom without needing a pedal. I spent way too many years acting like the volume knobs on my basses were on/off switches. But as the saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat slap a bass!

You wouldn't want to just turn the master level up a bit more on your BDDI or the drive up a little more on that unit?

Is this because you want a different flavor of drive or...?

Given the BDDI itself is capable of satisfying your request, I feel additional context might be needed.

I usually have the DRIVE between 11:00 and noon for mild overdrive. I like the extra body it adds to the tone without distortion.

Where do you have the BLEND?

to add some dirt during guitarist solos. Blend 100%.

What do you mean ? ( sorry i'm french ^^my english is poor !)

Edit : i should buy a programmable Sansamp but there's no mid knob.
My response wasn't directed at you, more of a general statement about how ineffective sharing knob positions generally is.

Even for blend, the signal strength of the SansAmp side makes a huge difference in terms of which knob position is 50% balance or 75% balance etc. Anything other than 100% and 0% which are pretty cut and dry. :p

Intuitively one might expect that blend at 12:00 is 50%/50% but it almost never is.

Again, that's just an example.

Try it. That should do it.

There are decent cheap boost pedals too: Sonicake Clean Boost is US $30, someone in the TB classifieds is asking for a TC Electronic Spark (and the Spark mini sells new for that price) -- but if you have the Boss pedal use that first.

Is this for an effect that can be turned off and on or is this for always on use?

If it isn't something that needs to be turned off and on: need more drive? Just turn up drive on the BDDI. Need more signal strength in general? Increase level. 🤷‍♂️
