I almost let it go without really finding the sweet spot between the EQ and comp. Thankfully it didn't sell right away. It is really amazing. The comp fattens things up without losing definition of getting flabby. The EQ kills. On another note, I know it isn't branded as a Hiwatt clone, but the XD-1 absolutely nails the Entwistle tone. The x-over allows you to dial in a beautiful hifi tone and still control the amount of dirt. It is definitely worth the look.

I'm currently running my Leeds as a preamp and using my Ashdown Mibass' power stage only. It's a magnificent sound, I'm very happy. I was previously using as a stomp box between the amp and the bass but this way I find it gives me a far purer tone. Very aggressive but controlled and tight. Of course it can be pushed to extremes if needed.
I've also found the speaker sim to be far more useable when running the pedal as a preamp - if used as a stomp box on top of your amp's EQ, the speaker sim can sound rather hissy and brittle. As a preamp it makes a lot more sense. I leave mine on all the time now.

Rehearsed with the Leeds last night, into the FX return of my GK 700 and Ampeg 410HE, with 78 Precision and Roto 66's. It didn't take long to set up a great sound, unlike the VT seemed to. I actually preferred it with the speaker sim engaged. Most controls were around noon apart frim the mids which I had around 2 o clock. The sound was very punchy, very defined mids and a nice solid bass. Highs were bright without being harsh or clanky like the VT. The tone was very Hiwatt - I didn't push it to 'Ox' levels, preferring more of a Bruce Foxton / JJ Burnell tone.

It's great isn't it? I have the EQ knobs all at around 1 o'clock, the character around 12. Speaker sim stays on. I'm quite a heavy handed player so I leave the drive at around 10 o'clock. I crank the drive to 12 for 'My Generation'. :bassist:

I love this pedal!

I use to work at HiWatt and the Leeds tone knobs are very different than the amps, bass, middle, presence and treble voicing. Maybe they needed to change the ranges to accommodate for a bass's wider range?
