This is what we really need ...

... and then we can make this!

I am not so sure about all the negativity ...

Unless you think absolutely no amp should cost more than $2000
OR, you have experienced it and think its a dud ...

I am not saying it is worth it either because I have never played one.

I think its the fact that the cost of the parts is so much less than the whole. Its a "VT" head. A VT pedal and a power amp could be had new for a quarter of the price.

I just got the Tech 21 VT bass 1000. MSRP is $2,500. I got it for $1,900. It screams! Fantastic sounds and great power. I'm playing it thru two Mesa Boogie standard power house bass cabs. The 2x12 and the 2x15. Having all the VT and sansamp circuitry internal makes for a better blending/creation of sounds. Sounds way better than using a pedal.

Charlie, make that preamp a 2-channel preamp, for Clean+Dirty with separate tone controls and footswitch selectable.

Or, be able to switch between two of them, each configured as either Clean or Dirty, with balanced TRS and XLR outs to Amp and Console.

My concept product does even better than 2-channels as it is based on the VT Bass Deluxe that has 6 programmable channels/patches (sharing the same control set for each, just like the VT Bass Deluxe does today)

I personally prefer a one-space rack device and that is why I went with that design

Although I did not mock-up a rear view, I most likely would have borrowed heavily from the existing RPM + RBI products and would included both 1/4" and XLR outs as they do today

Cheers!

$1.9K is pricey. But you don't need wall warts or interconnecting cabling, which, if one is a busy enough bassist, would surely be worth a bit over time. Class D power supply makes it light and reliable. And then there's the footswitch, and all the flexibility that offers in conjunction with two completely independent preamps.

I have not a clue as to the board-level components, but at that price would expect good stuff even if SMT.

Tech 21 is not a foolish company, and I suspect this amp is quite a bit better than two pedals, a power amp, and an A-B box. Only one way to find out...

I like Tech21 gear and I respect their workmanship. No way you get a real SVT made in the USA for under two grand. I have owned and maintained a Sunn 300T, and brother, y'all better be willin' the maintenance. The Tech21 stuff is lighter and much more reliable over time. It is idiocy to equate the Tech 21 VT1000 with any $1900 Chinese amp.

The VT amp is way too much. But I don't think the $300 power amps being listed here are 1000 watts. People seem to be getting confused by the naming schemes, which is exactly what they want.

An power amp that actually gives 800+ watts at 4ohms is going to cost more like $500 or $600. Still much cheaper, of course.

Are you claiming a Peavey IPR 1600 (for example) can't put out at least 1000W @ 4 ohms?

And that everyone is just going by the name, and never looked at the spec sheets? Or has never tested/measured one?

Either way, that's a pretty fantastic claim.

Peavey cannot touch Tech21 in quality of sound nor build. If y'all don't think it's worth the dinero (without ever hearing it) then plunk yer dough on a Chinese box.

Fine, add in your favorite made in USA 1000W power amp to a VT Deluxe pedal, and it will still cost half of what Tech 21 charges for this thing.

Not that Carvin makes the best power amps on earth, but 1000W at @4Ohms for $350 and 10lbs.

I'm sure its a fine piece of equipment, but I don't see them selling many at this price.

An extra $830 for 700 more watts. As much as I love Tech21 products, that does seem a bit much. I'm already rockin' the VTRM with a high-power low weight SS amp... the extra channel isn't enough to make me consider this even if it cost less. All that said, if I preferred consolidated heads to rack rigs I'd consider the 1000w.

Random thoughts:
  • I kind of prefer the look of the 300w model... but you can't go wrong with bass-ic black
  • No Blend control on either head... I think I would miss that (the VTDI pedal and VTRM have Blend)

So I bought a VT Bass 1000. One thing not being discussed much is the PA section. This amp is FAST, much faster than a Chinese Crown XLS1000. I'm not certain of the correct technical term for this. The power is really clean and spaces between the notes jump out. It's very cool. It's also nice to have the controls arrayed linearly; there is, just as on the 'DI's, great interplay between the Character and tone controls. The two channels are selectable either or both with the foot switch. Without the foot switch it's only either.

I have yet to use the 'VT1000 on a gig. I suspect the drummer will be happy. Previously I have put together both a BDDI and also a VT Bass DI through a Crown XLS1000 (which is specified 700W RMS bridged into eight ohms). I played it through a Carvin BR115-8 (by far the best deal on a quality 1X15) and a beat up Tech 21 B410 cabinet. This setup was loud and clean, entirely useable commercially.

With the 'VT1000 these same sounds are more focussed and punchy. $1.9K is still pretty steep, though. At this point I'd venture to posit this amp gets worth its price the more clean articulation the player requires. Big shmooshy distorted tone likely won't benefit from what this amp offers.

bumpin' a zombie thread - how did this amp work out for you (or anyone else out there that's tried it?
