tell me about Super Ferrite pickups...need info...

Very good.
The wiring looking backwards is normal. Peavey didn't reverse the hot/ground wire colors on the RW/RP pickups. This throws many off when they rewire a SF Peavey with a matching wire scheme and the result is out of phase.
The official wiring diagrams show this reversal...

Not Super Ferrites but Super Neos just finished in Toaster format. These are 61mm compared to 64mm factory SF. These came out to 5.4k and 5.47k. only parts used from factory pickups are the chrome covers. What I learned from building this custom set is that to do toaster SF the Baseplates will have to be cut to allow the magnets to pass threw. These covers are not tall enough to encapsulate the coil and ceramics of a SF

Well I pulled the pickup out to take a reading and it looks like it’s cooked. Total bummer. I’m a little surprised since by looking at the casing it doesn’t seem physically damaged in any way. I wonder what could have caused the failure and where to go from here.

They die from inside. When the pickups were made someone decided to leave the magnet wire exposed on a metal hook. When that wire sits in the casting resin the off gassing over the years eats the wire away. Any of the factory pickups not dead yet are on a time limit

I can fix any dead SF pickups. The cost of doing so is salvaging your existing cover/s , cleaning up the parts , rewinding and re sealing in factory cover. It takes a lot of time to machine out all the resin and not bust threw the thin factory cover. To not crack the brittle ceramic magnets and harvest the bobbin from the cover without damaging the cover or the bobbin.

I try not to overcharge anyone , but this job takes time. There is no guarantee that there would not be some damage to the cover due to how thin the factory covers are and how well the coil and magnets are cast into the cover. (I really try hard to have no damage)

I did have some reproduction covers made , but I get the feeling everyone wants the factory covers so harvesting the covers is no problem.

If anyone wants their SF rebuilt you are welcome to contact me anytime. If you send in your SF's it will not be some crazy long wait.

Have you already ordered the Super Ferrite from Matt? If no, you might want to inquire about what other pickup covers available. I have soapbar Super Ferrites from Matt. They're great!

I already have, I contacted him via email but no response yet. I was thinking of maybe changing to the Bartolini BC sized cover, do you think they would fit in the space between two J pickups?

Would you like to change your order to BC

Or a custom cut ring can be made if you like , something inexpensive like vulcanex, other options are mahogany or Koa. Koa being the most expensive

Ah sorry, must've missed your email. After measuring, it seems like a BC will fit there so I'll go with that with an exposed blade, thanks!
