tell me about Super Ferrite pickups...need info...

Thanks for the pic. That does look like a SF, but if I've seen one with a top like that, I've forgotten. Block logo instead of pointy, plus it's missing the "super ferrite" and "made in usa" text, and the center emboss. Must be pretty uncommon, from a time after the block logo was introduced, but before SFs were discontinued. I have two 1992 Foundations; headstocks have the block logo, but pickups have the old pointy logo. Then I have two 1994 Foundations; headstocks still have the block logo, but the pickups are double-jazz size & shape, not SFs. Those double-jazz covers have the same block logo size and placement as in your pic. So evidently, between 92 and 94, they re-tooled an injection mold, then discontinued the product.

I also think the Patriot was discontinued before the block logo was introduced. So I assume that's not the original pickup.

I have the test equipment to measure the inductance, capacitance, resonant peaks and make Bode plots of pickups, as well as measure the magnetic characteristics. No damage to the pickup in process. Would be happy to measure some of the classic Peavey SF pickups and post the data here.

The DC resistance doesn't really reveal much about a pickup. The really valuable data are the reactive (inductance and capacitance) and the frequency response of the pickup.

Here's a measured Bode plot of a Gibson P100 bridge pickup (a much disliked stacked humbucker that looks like a P90). The plot shows the unloaded self-resonance at about 4.4khz, and the weaker peak around 2.3khz in a typically loaded electrical condition (ie, with the pots and tone controls, capacitance of the cable and amp input).

What up SF fam. I picked up a glorious beat up late 80s Foundation in sunburst. Stock super ferrite sound great! Some pot funny business, will change. Though I'm wondering if anyone has messed with 500k pots on their SFs, maybe for a little more top end to come through?

Stoked to have picked up this late 80s sunburst Foundation. Its got some great wear and I got it for ridiculously cheap on EBay but plays and sounds really great- these SFs man, really know how to party. Stickered for my 90s/00s cover band gig
