I don't see the point of having a nice bass that you like if you're only going to play it whenever you come home. Bring it to school! Buy a gun safe for it if you have to!!! That's what I did my fist year, and I slept much easier!

my american deluxe jazz V just sits on a stand in my dorm room... i lock the door every time i leave.. never had a problem

My Dad did a similar thing in the 1960's but it was a Fender clone.

I was at Tulane that year, and although that school enjoys a great reputation (well, it used to. I don't know if you heard about the frat kids that got arrested for giving some pledges 3rd degree burns. One of the guys who got arrested was my roommate....), there was waaaayyy too much drinking going on for me to be comfortable leaving my bass around. The following year at Berklee was a slightly different story, although I still didn't just leave them sitting around most of the time.

if all parents encouraged their kids in music like this lad's dad then we'd have real generation of musicians instead of a culture of lame Xfactor and pop idol one hit wonders
