As a dad myself, it is cool IMO to give things that interest me that I know my kids would love for gifts. Musical instruments are one of those things.

My oldest son wanted to learn drums... poof! Drums for Christmas 3 years ago. Same year my other boy wanted to learn guitar.. Poof! A guitar for Christmas.

My wife almost drew the line this year when I bought huge congas for my youngest son (he tried them at my cousin's house and fell in love with them) for Christmas. Yes, congas can be annoying!

Some dads are into fishing, hunting, baseball cards or whatever and try to pass their passion on to their kids and bass IMO is no different.

It is great to see Tom84D so excited... but I bet his dad is nearly as excited!

P.S. My wife is expecting our third in June... is it too early to start planning next Christmas' gifts?

You couldn't be more right. The reason it is 2 weeks before Christmas and i already have it is because he just couldn't wait to give it to me, HE was too excited.
