My personal experience is that it's best to leave as much as I can to monitors. Why? Well, loud bass amp onstage is one source of sound - loud for people near, not loud enough for people further away.
Ampeg 8x10 for just about everything, 1 or 2 15"s for small rooms. The soundman likes them incidentally.
I have Invalid Link Removed. I haven't yet had a situation where it was inadequate to the task of making enough sound to be heard. It does weigh 90 pounds, though, so I put heavy duty casters on it.This last weekend we played a festival in Michigan. The opening band was energetic. Pretty aggressive and well practiced. Bass player used a Lakland 5'er through a Hartke combo. Single 15 I believe. As they were loading off stage, I uncased my DNA DNS-410 and my DNA 1350 head. As I lugged that HUGE cab up the stairs (yup, no ramp) I heard the bassist say - "See that's why you don't buy a 4x10". Fast forward to sound check. We generally have only vocals in our monitors because we, as a band, can hear each other on most all stages. Our monitor engineer thought it was very strange, but that is what we do. Done with our set, the sound engineer comes over to me and says - "Wow, I see why you only need vocals in your monitors" and my response was "That is why I use a 4x10"
Maybe a little pretentious?? A little egotistical? But we had a good set. Sound was great. Audience had a good time. Just wanted to share a story from the road..
Trace Elliots from what I've heard, sound full and carry really well. I heard a 1x15 like yours with a Jazz bass and I still remember it as if was yesterday. Great tone!I have Invalid Link Removed.
