The Über-Jay Mark2

I followed your first Uber Jay, and now only read the first and last pages of the Mark2. I'll read the rest when I have a bit more time. The natural looking bound n blocked neck is such a beautiful idea. Stunning!

... I wonder how much shipping to NZ would cost... :p

The overall tone of the Camphor Burl is now more reddish with honey-like hues. I see less green, but it might be the light...or my eyesight bidding me sayonara.

Tomorrow, more of the same. Tonight, gig with Über-Jay Numero Uno :bassist:

Looking good!

If I could ever order one I'd make the finish less shiny. :)

Hey man! :) A less shiny look on the right wood combo would indeed look very stylish. The next one is likely to be finished that way. Perhaps just oil finish?

Can't wait for this one to be finished so I can move on to the next one :D

Today was the last wet sanding/spraying day. This is how that sleek thing looks after the sandpaper treatment

The tragedy is to get rid of the lacquer dust stuck into narrow spots and especially inside the ferrules' cavities :rollno:

Brush, nail, paper....cloth....air gun.... @%$&®†¥∂ and finally it's ready for spraying two last coats.

Now it's drying up. It will cure for the next ten days. I am glad I managed to stick to the timetable this time. I am leaving on Monday morning to Vietnam for work. back after 10 days. Just perfect eh? :D

Almost there...almost there :bassist:

what kind of attitude is that? It's the journey, not the destination

True, true ;) But at this point I really wish I were done with it, after all the delays. The fact that the electronics for the next one are ready doesn't help either :D

On a separate note, yesterday I stumbled upon a locally made 7 stringers - I'm in Saigon now. I'm going to visit the luthier and ask him where to shop for local wood.

Back in Malaysia, I've seen an incredibly sexy looking Vietnamese Ebony board. The grain looked like B&W water ripples. Quite stunning.

There's also a good market for MOP and Abalone inlays over here. They're very nicely carved and reasonably priced. It might be useful to find some contact over here as I might have to come back often in the near future. we'll see.

I am sorry to report that my search for local wood here in Saigon has been unsuccessful. I did find luthiers, most of them make acoustic guitars and some make acoustic basses too. Unfortunately they would not sell their wood. heck....

Tomorrow night I'm going back. 2 weeks away, 2 weeks of curing time for Über. Perfect timing. Saturday I'm on it :D
