The 2008 Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

consider Drury's blood a gift from us and the NHL... "great game of hockey"... what a laugh... yeah if you're a whistle. First we had the Devils choking the EC, now these slew-footing, diving, face slashing, stains... If Sidney Crosby ever lifts a cup he should pay extra attention to the platter it was handed to him on...

It's all good. I think I would be this upset as well if my team of big name veterans got took by a bunch of kids. If you're anything like me, it takes a few days to get over a loss.

Check back in with us in a few days. I like your take on the NHL. You definitely know way more than I do about hockey and the NHL.

Like I said before - 'what a ride'.
Congrats to the Stars, best of luck against the Wings.

*** handshakes ***

What heroic hockey........ That was two goaltenders at the very top of their game. I was happy the game wasn't decided on a cheapie. Just a good play by a great player.

I'll tell you this....... You can have Crosby.... I'll take Brenden Morrow.

I think the Captain is looking awfully Conn Smythey;)

Big Ups to the Sharks. They could have mailed it in after falling to 3-0. I can see a Cup in the future for that nucleus.

Bring on the Pink Wings!!!!!:hyper::hyper::hyper:

FO' SHIZZLE I think the Captain is looking awfully Conn Smythey

I have a suspicion they've already started engraving Johan Franziens name on that trophy. The "Moose" already has Eleven goals in this playoff run and he outscored the entire Avalanche team last series. It's looking more and more like a Wings year everyday.

If I am not mistaken, the Rangers had a lot more rookies playing on their team than the Pens did, just to put that in there.

You may be right. But to the casual hockey fan like myself, the Rangers looked like the veteran team with some big name stars. While the Pens were a bunch of kids with a couple young studs. You don't need to argue with me about Crosby being a big name, I understand he is.

But when I looked down the Rangers roster, I saw Shanahan, Jagr, Drury, Gomez, and Straka. That made me really nervous. I honestly did not expect the Pens to win, although I wanted them to with all my heart.

I'll bet you're right. I guarantee you this: The winner of the Conn-Smythe trophy will come out of this series........

Franziens or Morrow.

And Burk, the fact that you're talking about it being a Wings year after watching the Stars mow through the defending Cup champs and the Sharks shows a "Hockeytown" arrogance that only a Wings fan can pull off!!! This is gonna be fun!;)

Prediction time: Stars split at the Joe and roll into the Finals in 6 games:hyper:

GO STARS!!

Yeah Dallas doesn't have any arrogant hockey fans they're all watching the Cowboys.:D

Well Franzien got another one tonight, so did Morrow. Unfortunately for him, three other Wings scored.:D It might help Dallas if they actually had control of the puck on the Red Wings end of the ice. This game was not as close as the score, Turcco made some great saves, but the Wings owned the puck.

Yay, Detroit only has to travel about 2,000 miles or so to Dallas instead of 3,000 if the Sharks advanced.

On the flip side,I hope all the traveliing the Pens and Flyings have to do doesn't wear on them.....

If you've seen any of the Pens and Flyers games this season they have been very chippy. There is quite a lot of bad blood between these two teams. I have a feeling this is going to be a heated Eastern Conference Final. That will probably wear them out more so than flying (edit:train?).

Kimmo Timmonen is out indefinitely with a blood clot in his foot. He is arguably the Flyers best D-man. Looks like Coburn and Jones are going to have to step up.

Oh yeah

GO FLYERS!!!!!!

I need the Stars to lose three so they can beat the Wings in seven, as I picked in a Stanley Cup prediction contest I'm doing somewhere else. But that said, I want those losses AND remaining games to be WAY CLOSER contests than tonight's game.

Go Penguins!! My other favorite team and THE team I've been pulling for in this year's fight for Lord Stanley...since my Hurricanes managed to screw up their getting in...

Yes, the wings PP popped three, though the Holmstrom goal was goaltender interference (this from a diehard Red Wings fan). Kronwall had a beautiful hit that probably would have brought a big smile to the face of Scott Stevens. Turco wasn't necessarily "soft", but the Red Wings have his number. The Stars will be coming out much harder in game 2, imho. They'd better if they want to extend this series. I think it's going to be the wings in 6.

It's a bummer about Timmonen, as he's a good player, and you want both teams to be at full strength in a series, if only to get rid of an excuse for whining fans of the losing team. Still, it's a good year to be a PA resident and hockey fan. If the wings don't choke, I should be able to hit the finals in either Philly or Pitt. Who knows, I may be able to repeat my octopus toss from game three of the 98 Finals :)

The thing I notice about hockey (& one reason it's my favourite team sport)-
The 'star' can get KO'd, the team responds in a positive manner & sometimes...miracles happen.

Philly has been without Gagne. So far, it's been a blessing in-disguise...maybe?
;)

...and shee-it, my girlfriend's cable company doesn't carry Versus.
No hockey, no bass...I guess for 2-nite I'm onto my 3rd favourite activity.
DOH!
