The four Warwicks on top are my main basses now, but I still have the one bellow, which was my first Warwick I ever bought. I also have a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass with a Hipshot D-Tuner and a Badass II bridge. Total = 6 basses, and maybe another Warwick on the way in a week or two...

Special things about my 4 main Warwicks: The Corvette Std. fretless has a beautiful tigerstripe fingerboard (I call it my "Tigerboard" 'Vette). The Thumb Dirty Blonde has a unique pattern in the center of the body wood that looks like eagle wings spread out. It was also professionally de-fretted by Richard Beck before I bought it. It gets a great vintage slap sound with the P pickup and a great fretless mwah with the Twin Jazz pickup. It also has a Hipshot D-Tuner. Both the Corvette Std. fretless and the Thumb NT have Bartolini pickups and D-tuners as well. With these and the $$, I have "all basses" covered!

My current herd of basses:

- Fender Jazz Fretless, MiM, with J-Retro and Bartolinis
- Peavey Cirrus 5
- Fender Jazz Marcus Miller, MiJ, 85/86 according to the s/n tables
- Ergo Bass EUB
- Fender Jazz, on loan to my kid in college

And soon:
- Nordy VJ4, on order. Still waffling on the color choice. But decided on maple neck, binding, big splits, Audere.

There is something odd about that little bass in the front. Can't quite put my finger on it. Fretless Stringless maybe? Gibson by Microsoft maybe? What kind of tone do you get? Does it need a pre, like an Xbox-360?

Palatino EUB- heavily modded & is now a nice EUB. Bridge-Plexi-glass thanx to Yvarg (TB), string retainer gut(nylon ;-), Stock pre-bypassed for outboard Fishman Plat.+
SX P/J currently in pieces- string-thru Gotoh bridge, SD 1/4lb P pup, Fender USA jazz pup.. the rest still waiting!

Very much over 5 but only because I reached a particular point in my "playing life" where I've made the upgrade from "Good Quality Basses" to "Keepers", but have just started to sell off the GQB to help equal out the financial aspect. When all is said and done I can't see myself with more than 6-8, and that's if I somehow win the lottery and can get myself basses like the Tony Franklin Signature Fretless, a custom to-my-specs M5 & M5 fretless, a swap of my Spector ReBop 4-string - the older "Standard version" w/ no maple top or Crown Inlays - to the upgraded [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (I know the pics of a Euro, but the look's the same) and another ReBop DLX FM strung EADGC the times I need the range of a sixer, and perhaps a Link Removed. For the forseeable future it'll most likely be pickup and preamp upgrades for me:
  1. 1992 Ibanez SR-800 fretless four-string in Jewel Blue* (My first "real" quality bass and therefore my one sentimental "keeper"... plus developing a backbow that's not worth putting in the money to fix)
  2. 1996 Ibanez SR-1206 six-string in Natural*
  3. 2002 Fender Standard Jazz Bass four-string in Midnight Wine modded with Bassline SJB-2 hot pickups, Gotoh 201 bridge, and white pearloid pickguard*
  4. 2003 Yahama RBX-775 custom fretless five-string in Flat Blue with matching blue inlayed lines*
  5. 2004 Mike Lull Modern 5 five-string in Transparent Amber with Aero Type 1 pickups
  6. 2006(?) Mike Lull Modern 4 in Transparent Red with Lindy Fralin pickups
  7. 2004 Spector ReBop four-string in Natural Oil with a Hipshot Bass Xtender
  8. 2007 Spector ReBop 5 DLX FM five-string in Black Cherryburst
  9. 2007 Spector ReBop 5 DLX FM five-string custom fretless in Blueburst
*The basses I've outgrown and/or in either playing style, ergonomics, string-spacing, or simply taste and are currently on the "For Sale" block.

Hey, I've got the Variax 705 too. Do you play it at all? It hasn't grabbed me like I thought it would when I ordered it. I wish I had spent the $1200+ on something else, honestly. Although I have used it in the studio occasionally, and will be using the 12 string bass setting soon for one song, at least. What's your impressions on the bass?
