By the way, great pictures. I noticed something very interesting... your reverb tank is mounted upside down relative to mine. Yours has the I/O on the bottom and mine has them coming out the top. I'm pretty sure yours is right and mine is wrong. It always troubled me that the coax cables seemed to be too short for the path from the preamp board, now I know why.

Question on the transformer of the Acoustic 360 preamp. Does it have different taps so it can be easily converted for use with 220/240V?


That's a great question. Maybe somebody else knows better, but I've certainly never seen or heard of them exporting any of the 1st generation models. The earliest instance I'm aware of where Acoustic used a multi-tap power transformer was in the 270/370 models, and it had to be hardwired internally for the correct voltage. The first models with an internal switch for selecting voltage was the late 2nd generation 450 & 470.

My first gen 150 works on 240V, any chance that it shares the same transformer? I need to take a closer look at the wiring.

Well that's interesting. If you do get in there, see if you can spot the numbers "56-13" or "560013" stamped on the side of the transformer. Domestic USA 150 models (both gen. 1 & 2) should have a part number 560003 transformer stamped "56-3". But years ago I bought a loose transformer from someone on Ebay who advertised it as being from a 150 and it has primary center tap wires. Its part number is 560013, and I'd wager that's the transformer used on the export models.

Digging through some 150-series schematics I see that some drawings that were revised in March 1973 to add an export transformer option. That would have been later in generation 2, but it's possible that they were just getting around to documenting what they had been doing all along.

Domestic 360 preamps used a different transformer, part #560001. I don't know if there was ever an export model. In the only pic I've got I only see 4 wires, so apparently no center tap.
 
What kind of equipment is needed for these kind of frequency response curves of the amp itself? To make it even cooler, the integrated frequency response of the speaker itself would be great to see
Basically an audio interface and some software (ARTA from artalabs). If you want to include the power amp also a speaker level DI.
Plug one of the outputs into your amps input & die output of the preamp or DI into one of the interfaces inputs. Then measure with the software (there's tutorials on the net). :)
