The more I dig into my new to me 136 amp, the less I like what I see. The seller said it was "refreshed and a replacement speaker was installed". As I was playing it, I decided to push it a bit. Full on distortion mode! Now, I understand the "standard" tube/Ampeg tone has a bit of that tube grit and IMHO distorted tone, but I don't remember the ACC 136 as having that tone. I remember it as clean, clear solid state clean. I pulled the speaker and it definitely is new and not blown, but I don't think it is an actual bass speaker. The hand written number on it is KPG152K (google search brings up a Rockville powered speaker). I am thinking this speaker is just crap and I should hunt for a true replacement... What did these have originally??

Hello! I'm a new ACC member as of this week. I purchased a 450 head but am told by my tech the 220 is a better buy and there's one locally for $300.

Any thoughts on the 450 vs 220? I can't keep both and have the 450 listed for sale on TB.

I'm currently using it with a newer 8ohm Ampeg Portaflex 2x10 cabinet I have and am not terribly happy with what I'm hearing. Perhaps that's the cab though…

I have a 220 and it is a great amp with the classic ACC tone. I wouldn't have thought it would differ greatly from the 450 though. Probably similar pre amps and graphic.

Great - good to know! Makes me feel better about my quick purchase.

Any suggestions on a better cab or does that not matter much? I haven't read much on the 450 which is what gave me pause after purchasing. There's also a 220 with matching cab in my area that needs a speaker for $350 which is why I was thinking of selling this rig to make room for that one.

No that is incorrect about the 220.

I have no idea what the model number stands for, but the 220 is ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE WATTS AT FOUR OHMS.

The amp is able to pull a 2 ohm load at which it is rated to produce 160 watts.

Note both these numbers are achieved at FIVE PERCENT total harmonic distortion; not POINT OH FIVE PERCENT or POINT FIVE PERCENT, yes you heard it right, 5%.

These specs come straight from my original owner's manual.

I run my Acoustic amps into two Eden 2x10 cabs. Some times, if I don't want to haul the complete rig, I'll use one of the cabinets. Either way, it sounds great. Clean and dynamic, and plenty of volume to keep up with a drummer and guitars. Even my 126 is up to the task.
Admittedly, it doesn't look as cool as a matching cab, but I'm not loosing any sleep about that.;)

I realize you are not in Canada, but I've gone to this place and found replacement lights and other things for some of my old amps. Maybe even as a place to get a part number or something? They are always pleasant and helpful.

I found a neon lamp for my 370, it was just the raw lamp and needed a little surgery to install it into the lamp holder (it was a two or three years ago so I forget where I got it). I have a spare so Ill go downstairs to see if I have a part number or something.
