The All New Julie Slick thread

While this thread is still sorta simmering, I feel like I should offer up a big thanks to Julie, Tobias, and of course Adrian for being such awesome sports and hanging out with the fans at their shows. The Stick Men, too - everyone was as polite and accommodating off stage as they were brilliant on it, and we do appreciate it.

Here's a really cool version of "e" from the recent tour, with good quality sound and video:

Speaking of "e," I picked up the "e for Orchestra" DVD at one of the shows on this tour, but didn't have a a chance to watch it until recently. (I was waiting until I could fully appreciate it under ideal conditions, if you catch my drift.) No Julie, of course, but it is truly an amazing performance, and I recommend it to everybody. Frankly, I went into it a bit reticent given how much I love the original power-trio version of the album -- which I count among my top-5 albums of all time (really!) -- so I was a little concerned about how much I would dig the orchestral version. Well, it blew me away. Seriously, check it out.

On another front, I want to put in a plug for the video of Julie and bro Eric playing with guitarist Tim Motzer. Julie posted the link a while back, but here it is again:

Julie Slick, Eric Slick, Tim Motzer

I watched it (again) last night and it blew me away (again). Two hours of spontaneous composition in the studio.

You have to register for the site (free), and the download costs only 10 bucks -- a ridiculously low price given that it is two hours long and and very professionally produced. The video is beautifully edited from numerous camera angles, and the audio is exquisite. The only downside is that it is a 6-gig (!) file, so you'll need some patience. A must-have for anyone who digs improvisational music and/or who is a fan of Julie's and wants to see and hear her in a completely different context!

The 6GB deal is keeping me away from that one, and here's why:
I have Satellite internet at home which runs much slower than my job's Internet speed.
So I wanted to download at work (which wouldn't slow anyone down), burn it to a disk and then take said disk home and watch it on the big screen tv...at 6GB it's not going to fit, and it would be too frustrating to try to download that big of a file with my Satellite at my house(which is in the boonies with no other internet options).

I'd like to know how many other folks have similar problems, and who would be willing to pay a little more for a pair of DVDs. Maybe I can help. I ordered and paid for the download, but didn't actually download it: Instead, a buddy of mine, who had the requisite software and know-how, edited his version of the file into two parts and made a pair of DVDs for me. (As you noted, the whole thing won't fit on a single DVD without reducing the quality.) He did a really nice, professional job, even including the credits and such on both discs. If there is interest, I'd be willing to talk to Motzer and see if we can work out a plan to either get him discs that he could sell through his site, or if there's a way for me to burn discs for people that he's OK with (and that ensures he gets paid appropriately).
