Yeah, they generally sound really close, but not quite the same.
However, this amp will have 256 bit AD/DA conversion at 210 kHz with a dedicated modeling processor. So it'll sound really, really close, but still not quite the same.
For the 1% of cork sniffers with perfect hearing (is there even such a thing?) you MIGHT notice some small difference, or at least claim to. To the average listener/audience member/musician with some degree of hearing loss (due to their decades long unwillingness to part with their blazing loud analog amp/cab setups...) the difference will be, and really pretty much is there now, so unnoticeable that it really doesn't matter. A big part of the reason even huge touring acts and more and more cover/tribute/amateur bands are going to digital processing. Much easier, much more consistent, and way less stuff to haul around.
As the Boomer types who refuse to move into the future age out and their dinosaur rigs get sold off for pennies on the dollar (cause no one wants them anymore), digital modelers will become even more pervasive than they are now and analog amps will become an increasingly shrinking part of the market. And even a lot of us Boomer types like myself (pushing 69 y.o. and still gigging most weekends) will, or already have, moved to digital processing. Some old dogs are still capable of learning new tricks. There will always be those who refuse to change and that's fine, to each their own. They will however be an increasingly shrinking part of the market. I may be dead wrong, but it's unlikely I'll be around to find out (or care).
Does it have Solitaire built in? Otherwise, no thanks.

I'd take a D800 reduced to a gain w/the -/OK/+ LED's, a bass +/- and a treble +/- centered in the high mids, and a clip LED and on/off switch. Transformer DI and SpeakOns out back. And I'm debating dropping the bass and treble for that control that progressively drops the mids as the deep end and the highs rise.
Minimal, but useful to me. For me, less is way more. Neanderthal, and proud of it.

I have trouble texting on a cell fone. Can't find the volume buttons on a TV. No thank you. I'll stick with dobs snd knials

Don't we basically have this already in the Darkglass Exponent 500? Sure, you have to use your own phone to control it. But something that light on top of your cab is going to be pulled off and smash the screen, probably on a gig. I guess this will have a Bluetooth foot controller? The only thing that's really novel about this concept is the size. Not sure there is a great uproar over carrying today's heavy 6 lbs amps. There is a limit to how small you can go and still have room for air flow. Class D amps run much cooler than solid state or tube amps, but there is still some heat.

Half the listed features/connectivity will be obsolete long before something like this would (hopefully never) see the light of day.
If something like this was actually released today it would be obsolete in a couple of years (if it even lasts that long before you crack the screen...). It's a great example of the kind of gear I avoid like the plague.

The perfect sci-fi amp would be a solid-state head with: Volume, Gain, Bass, Mid Level, Mid Freq, Mid Q, Treble, and Compressor Level KNOBS. Then an included footswitch to work three presets, plus Comp on/off. No FX, no problem.
The idea of an ADA connected to a power amp is the future.
You will be able to use one box on top of an 810 and load the SVT program and use the exact same box on an open back 212 with the TwinReverb program. They will both sound better than the originals as there will be no noise and they will be much more reliable.

You know, I once considered making this exact rig for myself, but then I remembered I'm not a guitarist and don't need any new bass tones. Mine's a simple life in terms of gear.
The Darkglass Exponent 500 is almost there. It would need an integrated screen (no need for external control), more power and effects, and it's still a bit bulky. Oh - and those old style knobs will have to go!
It will come with velcro tape. Make sure to apply the fuzzy and hook sides properly! And don't forget to add a really good screen protector.
This amazing amp will incorporate Class Z technology for significantly increased efficiency which results in almost no heat. The heatsinks will be plated with Dymalloy (silver and diamond alloy) with extremely good thermal conductivity.
Personally, I have an all analog signal chain, and I hope to keep it that way
Yeah, there may come a day when my ears can't tell the difference between an actual all-tube amp and a digital facsimile thereof . . . but it is not this day.
All of this, but integrated into you phone. By that time they'll have consolidated all type of plugs, or itll be wireless.Here it is - the amp of the future!
