I work for an airline now repairing electric powered actuators which I love. I don't have to get wet or cold, and my joints don't ache too much.Hi! I'm a Former Falcon Fixer. (Say that fast 3X)
I was avionics, primarily Comm/Nav/ECM, but toward the end of my time we were Rivet Workforced together and I worked all of the avionics systems on the F-16. I started out at Hill AFB in 1980 and was assigned to the 3rd squadron to receive the Falcon. The 4th Tactical Fighter Sq. Fighting Fuujins. Back in 1980 the F-16 still had not been officially named, and the Battlestar Galactica movie/tv series was still very popular with it's Viper space fighters all of the rage. Everyone wanted the plane to be named the Viper, and many of the pilots even wore Viper pins on their flight suits. When the plane was officially named the "Fighting Falcon" we all had a dying duck fit. I remember thinking "What a totally faggy name for a cool fighter!" Anyway! I think it has been poetic justice that many still refer to the plane as a Viper even after these 31 years. I wish I could still work on them, but that type of work is better for the young bodies.I work for an airline now repairing electric powered actuators which I love. Vulcan? I LOVE the look of those things.
The whole "arrowhead" look always seemed to futuristic to me. There was a US Navy fighter from back in the 50's/early 60's that also had that design. For the life if me, I cant remember it's name...it wasn't very successful but looked cool as all.

See first parapraph for several records/firsts. Also bear in mind that jet engine technology was barely out of it's infancy at the time this aircraft was designed.
