To try and put some hope on this bro, start checking the pawn shops. My guitar players rig was stolenand was found in one. Most of those crackhead MF don't know what they have as far as gear, he MAY pawn it for cash. I hope you get him, it would be worth a new bass neck to crack him up side the head with you bass.

I heard a stroy of someone in montreal that had a valuable instrument (I forgot part of the story, including what kind of musical instrument it was) stolen. He told ALL his friends and got them to tell ALL their friends, and it was found rather quickly.

Man, I'm really sorry for your loss and I feel your pain. Our home was broken into not 2 months ago. We got a security system put in right away. Like others have said, you have the talent and what was stolen is just stuff. The important memories and experiences are in your head and they can't take those.

I read this post last night, and put my hands on the keyboard...nothing. I was speachless. I still can't say anything that will make it better. I couldn't get to sleep. I just kept thinking about how someone could be so ignorant and totally blind to the feelings of others.

Go home, take your camera, and take pictures of ALL your gear. On the backs of the pictures, you write down the make model pertinent info and SERIAL NUMBERS on the gear.
Also, if you have a camcorder, bust out a brand new tape, and do a very thorough and slow walkthrough of your home. Videotape everything. EVERYTHING.
When stuff gets stolen, your very first trip should be to the local pawn shops. Then, all the music stores. Then, the police. Give everyone copies of those pictures and info and serial numbers. Those items will pop up, and most pawn shops aren't that crooked to ignore a victim's efforts to retrieve stolen items.

I'm sure there are many towns in the US that are the same, but here, there are many parts of Montreal were you can leave your doors unlocked at night. I've done it many times. My kids always leave their bikes out in the driveway. I had an american friend you came to visit once and was surprised to see heat pumps everywhere that where not bolted down or locked in some way.
Sorry to hear bro. I will keep a look out. Which part of town do you live in? If I remember correctly there are a couple of pawn shop/music stores in the west island. I think Andy's is one.

This was for everyone else who still has their gear. So if they get ripped off, they can track it down.
Also, my brother wrote his name on the tremolo pockets inside each of his guitars. The cover plates read on the underside, "If you can read this, YOU STOLE MY F-ING GUITAR AND ARE DESTINED TO DIE PAINFULLY!" It was funny when he wrote it, but truth be told, if that guitar ever grows legs and walks away, we WOULD kill the thief. Cops better pray they get to him before we would.
Yeah my gut sunk when I first read this, but anger overcame me and reminded me that things can be done to help when this happens. I'm totally taking pictures of all my gear. And I'm keeping the pictures very hidden away up in my attic or somewhere.
Thanks everyone for you comments and concerns. I appreciate the encouragement from everyone. Everyone, please heed the good advice from people about documentation. I only had the serial from my Sadowsky - everything else is most definately going to be lost. We just moved (to a nicer neighborhood, no really worries when we moved) and didnt get tenant insurance yet. This means that we are likely very screwed. More advice for renters - get insurance right away. If it can happen in this building, in this neighborhood, it can happen anywhere.
