Also, I thought the HS was more forward sounding with a slightly grittier midrange. The HD is flatter and is natively smoother. Gotta dial the mids in to get the grit. I dig that more.

The Berg HD212 Thread!!

I have owned the AE112 (both series A and B), AE212, AE210, AE210 Vertical and AE410, HT112ER, and a stack of HS210s and now I just picked up my second HD210. So currently have the AE210 vertical and 2-HD210s and can compare those, but it would be cool to compare to my old HS210s that did so well in the mix. Not sure I would pick up the HD212 (since this is what this thread is about), but I sure might pick up an HD112 to stack with the HD210.
I actually tried the AE210 vertical and HD210 stack in vertical orientation and actually it kicked it. I liked the HD210 better on top though, whihc makes it a little top heavy, so thats why I decided to pick up another HD210. Will see what happens. BTW, Bergs

Posted this pic already over on the Berg thread but here's my HD212 I got a few weeks back. Love this thing! After years of settling for whatever okay tone I could get i decided to try to fine a cabinet that really sounded like I wanted it too, this is the closest I'ver ever come. This is the first cab I owned that I haven't turned the tweeter off, it sounds really natural and blends with the drivers. It's like a good compressor, I don't notice it till I turn/roll it off (not saying it sounds like a compressor, just making an analogy). I just love how much bigger the D and G strings sound! It's more like my bass sounds when I record instead of the thinner, hifi thing I get from 10', don't seem myself going back any day soon. As my ears are getting accustomed to it I'm hearing more growl in the lows, at first I thought it was almost a too round and dark in the low end but now I think it's about perfect.
FWIW the handle placement and the fact this cab is so narrow make it fairly easy to move around. It's much easier than my Avatar TB153 which weighs less but was MUCH more bulky. It actually seems lighter, though I don't think it is.

I know when I run the volume knob at the point some of my other cabs have started to complain it still sounds together and doesn't seem to be straining at all. All the same I REALLY want to order a HD112 for something a bit over-the-top and have a 3x12 stack!

I've always found Bergs to appreciate power. I can stretch my 2 AE112's with my 7 pro or even YBA300-all tube, but only just.

Had a chance to play through the HD212 using a Gallian Kruger Class D, not sure of amp

Then I played through the NV412 with an Aguilar DB750/51 can't remember which, but that was just ridiculous, for it's applications that has to be one of the best rig/combo's available. I have gigged that exact combo, and it is beyond glorious!
When that M9 finally arrives, it will be tested out on my HD112, HT112ER, HT112ER triple stack (tweeters off on the HTs) before it goes to live on my AE410 (for which combination I, too, can blame Tom). I expect thunder and lightning, with a chance of deafness. If still conscious, I will report back.
I am almost certain that an HD212 is going to be mine, but I don't see a cover for it on Jim's site. What are TBers covering their HD212s with?

It should be the same cover as the one that fit the AE212, right? Or did the side handles get moved?
The handles are in a different place. But, call any dealer and they will get you a cover. Just make sure you're sitting down when they tell you the price.
Sorry to hear it, I feel for ya. It's killing me but I've been considering selling mine as well. Not because of weight but because at this point my band is basically defunct and I'm considering early retirement from music..... Typical, as soon as I'm truly happy with something (my bass rig) the gig is over.....
