OK, finally got this thing today. Fair warning, if anybody else orders this from the same place, even though they're in Tennessee (if memory serves), they had it dropped shipped straight from Protec I guess, which is apparently in Anaheim, CA. So it took longer than expected to get here to CT. But anyway, here's the preliminary review:
Somehow the pictures online don't show it, and I haven't had a chance to shoot any myself, but the shape of this thing is actually triangular. Someone earlier thought it might be an issue that the stitched side gets fastened to the tailpiece and it might cause the whole thing to get squished in the bag. Well I think it's safe to say this is never going to happen, unless you actually stomp on it and stay there for a long time. Which you would obviously never do, at least not as long as your bass is in the bag! The reason is because it's actually got 3 hard sides. It stays wide open -- not just at the opening, but all the way down the length of the thing. It just tapers a little at the bottom, which is why it has that funny little jester-shoe-type thingy sticking out at the bottom end. I'm sure I'm not explaining that well, but if you saw it you'd know what I mean.
I think it's a keeper. It appears VERY sturdy. But very lightweight. AND, it has the plush lining inside, which is a bonus I wasn't expecting. I haven't actually put it on the bass yet so I still wonder if the buckle will cause a problem. But it sure looks purdy. More later, if I have anything more to say.
Thanks as always for your input folks. And this is a welcome relief from that exciting Peacock/Costello thread!
