The Big TB Sound Sample Thread

Okay, I am paying back the bass sample karma gods by offering up my sample virginity on a blowtorch sample.

For me the most important aspect of this pedal was the blend control and the low end retention, so that's what my clip was intended to demonstrate.

I aimed for creating a "$130 Woolly Mammoth" tone as best as I could easily do.

Settings are: Volume 10 o'clock, Bass 12, Midrange 2, Trebel, 11, Blend 2, Gain 4. Midshift is in the 2 KHz position and the torch button on the side is engaged. This is a fairly extreme tone for the pedal, it can be adjusted to sound much more subtle.

First 8 measures are me recording directly to my soundcard through my Behringer V-Amp 2 --->MXR Blowtorch---->MIA Jazz with the pickups running series, the first four with regular fingerstyle, the latter four digging in an' gettin' funkay.

Second 8 measures are with the blowtorch activated first four again are moderate fingerstyle which creates an almost synth like sound and the last four all settings are maintained, but with increased playing force you can hear how now the original tone cuts through on top of the fuzz.

Disclaimer: I ran the entire file through a plug in compressor and limiter to try and diminish the dynamics of the different playing levels. Apologies to anyone who is furious with me for coloring the sound by doing so.

Oh yeah, and please forgive the sloppy playing. I've spent far longer typing up this review than I did getting a decent take.:ninja:

Hi,

The last time I played my deep impact it made some very strange noises - hissing in the background, some of the settings were fuzzy and the output was way low. I was all set to take my deep impact down to the tech to get it fixed or maybe to sell it for whatever it was still worth when I decided to clean out the jacks. Guess what? Problem solved - close call.

Anyway, here are some sounds I came up with while I was messing around - bit of muse in there as usual :)

Still might get rid of this to put funds towards a US precision I saw in the shop - such a dilemma!

I like the first part of the blowtorch engaged! Sounds really "crunchy"

I have to ask: is that synth-fuzz-sound comming from the "torch button" engaged?

Edit: if you'd like to help out a fellow TB'er could you please record a sample with a more subtle overdrive-tone with some clean tone blended in? I'd really like to hear that :)

Awesome! I can see this thread again :D

My latest GOOD samples of the Electro-Harmonix Little Big Muff,EHX Small Clone, Morley Power Wah, and various combinations of these pedals with the Tech 21 Programmable SansAmp Bass Driver DI are now up on my sound sample site:

I posted some of the pedal settings as well with each sample. If anyone wants exact settings, I could post those, too.

Everything except the LBM Heavy Sharp Fuzz demo and the Small Clone demo were recorded using:

Ordinary laptop sound card (couldn't find my Creative Audigy 2 at the time...)
Schecter Stiletto Custom-4 (Lefty) w/ EMG-HZ soapbars and DR Lo-Rider strings
No amp (Although this stuff sounds even better through my GK 2001RB :D)

I have one Clone demo in my sample collection, using a pick.

I'd record more of the Clone, and even some of the Stone, if I hadn't sold both pedals already...

guys... how I love my brand new Moogerfooger MF-101 Lowpass Filter...
You can barely hear his REAL sound through this sample...
unfortunately the Pandora PXR4 seems to be thoughtless to the gain...
... YET... you can still fathom the power of this (not so) little monster... :D
