Bongoloids! What type of strings would you recommend for my 5HH?
Before you suggest, I don't like Slinkys (due to the .130 nontapered B) and I prefer Nickel with a hex core.

Try some Ken Smith steel strings...nice snap and good tension for bends and pull offs. What I mean by good tension is that they don't seem as tense as the nickel Dean Markleys I have on all of my other basses. Same guages, but the Markleys are tough to bend...and I'm not a little guy.

Sorry to hijack the thread but i found a good deal for a Bongo 6 HH and a store is selling it for $1100. Am i dumb for not picking this up?? I am in the market for another 6 string.

In other news, it took a trip back to the shop to fix a stuck trussrod wheel issue (you can imagine how badly I freaked out when I figured it out after realizing the C string was unplayable), but I'd like to claim that number now.

Nice Bongo! I'm pretty sure that'll be my next colour/pickup combo. That is unless by some miracle they bring out a purple!

Thanks. I've always preferred natural finishes, but that's a no-go on basswood, so... You'll note that in true Talkbass fashion, it does sport a tort pickguard (but no flats -- I like my growl midrangey and agressive
).I'd often been told that Bongos look better "in the flesh" than on pictures. It's true.
Also, while I suspect I'll need some time to get used to the 6th string, the neck feels very Ibanez-y to me, which is good. Thin, narrow, comfortable and fast. The one thing I'm missing from my Ibby is that I can't use the bridge pickup as a playing ramp of sorts -- it's too low and doesn't follow the neck's radius
. I'll have to get used to that.
Been awhile without any Bongo love. My Stealth 5HH that I bought back in December along with my new GK rig.
