Ok, so my initial thoughts are based on a quick setup to my taste with the set of Sadowsky blues that came on the bass (not my favorite strings). I'm going to GC tomorrow to pick up new strings and I may have some new thoughts after that. The HS had a very hi-fi sound. The HH can get dirtier easier, and I think the mid eq's are more responsive on the HH. That said, I think if I had to solo the neck pickup I prefer the HH because of that responsiveness in the midrange. I can dial in pretty close to a P bass tone which is something the HS simply couldn't do. When I go dead center on the pan pot I can tweak it to get pretty close to a J bass with both pups on full. That said, the mids are consistently more present across the board on the HH so I get why some people might say the HS is more versatile. Personally I think I like the tonal palette of the HH better. The one thing I'm trying to figure out is where to set the pickup height for the neck. The B string in particular hits the pole piece if I'm digging in any. I'm sure a Google search will turn some advice up, but it's a little bit annoying. The HS was a better player in that respect, but I gotta give the tone to the HH.
