Reaching the higher frets isn't a problem. But the neck is long to reach the first 3 frets
So I had a Bongo 5HH a while back that I loved, but needed to sell it to for the project I was in at the time. That said I loved the feel of it, and I'm watching for the right Bongo 4 (HH, H) to come along. One of the things I liked about my Bongo was the neck. It wasn't painted. Does anybody know if there has been a Bongo 4* made with an unpainted neck? Maybe a special edition or something?
@alexhagerman , I have a 4 string Dargie2 with Piezo that I have been thinking of selling. Plays and sounds beautiful but truth be told I am a Rickenbacker man.

@Stephent28 I've only seen the Dargie that was recently listed in the classified section, does the Darcie2 have an unpainted neck?
No, I believe all the Dargie's had painted necks. I know it is an issue for some but I have never cared whether a neck was painted or not.
I can’t answer whether or not there has been a Bongo 4 with an unpainted neck. But I can say that the finish on the Bongo painted necks is superb. No high-gloss stickiness. Only slightly noticeable compared to unpainted StingRay necks.
Yeah, unpainted necks are a personal preference on my end. The only bongo 4 with an unpainted neck I've found so far was a 2014/25 in Neptune Blue. There was one on here way back, and then another sold on Reverb for quite a bit.

Just plunked down some $ for this beauty! Hope to have her mid next week. Question...I seem to see more H and HH Bongos out there. Seems to me they made less HS versions, but I could be wrong. Anyone know? TIA!
It's been awhile since they offered HS on any of the models so definitely more HH around. I think the single H Bongos are even rarer though
Correct, HS was a configuration not too many people went for since the bongos are notorious for the dynamic range of the Hs.
There IS single H's out there but they will prob cost you an arm and a leg as they are ccrazy hard to get.

I saw a used one last year that was 1600 bucks. I only saw the front in pictures though

UPS just dropped this to me! Didn't know that these came with these cool hardshell cases. All of my other recent (post-90's) USA MM basses came with plastic cases. Reminds of of the silver tolex cases that Rickenbackers used to come with. Yes, the case's interior is molded to the Bongo shape.
Anyway, plugged her in for a few minutes. She needs a minor setup, but so far, so good!
