I tried them, and they didn’t excite me. I prefer EB Slinkys and DR Nickel Low Riders.

She is a beauty! Is the official color Fuchsia Sparkle or "Barolo"? My Bongo is Barolo and I love the color.
Whoever came up with the idea of taking common maple and over cooking it in the kiln needs a huge bonus from every guitar and bass maker. The look is gorgeous!

I’ve been playing my Bongos the last couple of services and last night took both. They are simply glorious in every way. Hands down the best 5’s I’ve every played.
Playing guitar 20’years and playing bass mostly past year and a half. Self taught on piano.
Have a Rick 4003, and had a Sri no ray on order but that didn’t happen cause of financial issues with car. Anyways I have the opportunity to drop some cash on a nice bass.

Well... FWIW, I spent a lot of time and money trying to play 6’s. It wasn’t that I couldn’t, I just felt more at home on 5’s and 4’s. Bongos are the only 5’s that I play... nothing sounds better. I played a 15K Alembic. Bongo better.
I primarily play 4’s. The phrasing makes sense, the neck feels good, and I like it better.
I’d say get a 5 and Rick out. I’m sure for every one that agrees with me, there will be an equal number that disagree.

I don’t think you find anyone in this thread who will dissuade you from getting a Bongo. We’re all fans. My Bongo is the most ergonomic, easiest playing, best looking and most versatile bass I own. The number of strings is your choice. Get a 6 if that’s what suits you; I’m happy limiting myself to 5 strings.
