My wishbass fretless has a fairly thin but DEEP neck so i guess its CHUNkY as ****! Nut width is a bit thinner than my matt freeman p. But damn! The thickness is easily 3x thicker than any p ive played! If not more! Possible picks coming soon.

The Chunk Keeps the Funk: Let's See Your Chunky Necks

Count me in. I'll get picks when I get home, if I remember. I'm going to switch things up on y'all with my Ibby. I have an '06 SR500 with D profile that is prolly 1.2" thick on a 1.5" jazz style neck. I know I'm blaspheming a bit putting an Ibanez in the middle of all these Fenders and the like but, it qualifies and is my fav of my 3 because of the chunk.
I'll try to get a profile pic next to my older Ibby (super thin) and my Squier P (C profile) to get good feel for size.

My basses (both Epiphone Embassy Special IVs) come in at 22mm (0.84") for the '05 and 25.47 (1.002") for the '06. I play the '05 more but the '06 is honestly more comfortable.
The neck on my guitar (which is HEAVENLY) is a whopping 26.78mm (1.054"!)

I can't believe some of the chunk I'm hearing. Epiphone? Ibanez? If only I'd known sooner.

If I recall correctly all the Warwicks have different neck profiles based on year. I can personally attest to playing a Thumb BO 5 string that had the single largest neck I've ever seen. Not just that I've played, but seen. It was so huge it was sanded flat down the center all the way from the head stock down to the body. CHUNK to the MAX. also super comfy because of the flat spot.

I had an Epiphone Thunderbird IV that had a huge, round bolt-on neck. I never should have let it go. You wouldn't expect a Thunderbird to have a chunky neck that is far bigger than the usual P neck, but that's what it was. Baseball bat nirvana. The biggest neck I have right now is the upright. If they made bass guitar necks anything like that, I would be happy. The P comes close, but it isn't as deep as I really like. The EB is a little noodle of a neck, but the shape makes it feel round and chunky, so it feels great.
I also cannot get shirts that fit because my own neck is bigger than it needed to be. People with necks like mine are either really fat or body builders. I'm neither. So, shirts and bass guitar necks are the same kind of quest.

I remember trying an Epiphone Thunderbird. The neck felt really terrific. Of course, that also meant 80% of TB hated it. 
I wonder if the Gibson Thunderbird's neck is similar.

No, and it is a shame. Epiphone Thunderbird Pros are good and round, but they are narrow. The Epi I had for a while had both width and girth. It was absolutely huge!
It's not just a shame, it's a travesty. Any plans I might have had to look into Gibson Thunderbirds have been derailed.
Am I laboring under a delusion in thinking that the necks on current-production, MIM, Classic 50s P Bass that measures 1-3/4" wide at the nut are chunky? Are the necks on those wide but thin? What's the deal?
I've been intrigued by the specs of this bass because I like chunky necks, but don't think I'd like this neck if it's thin despite its width. Please school me, as I've never seen one of these in the flesh. Thanks.

A lot of people seem to think the MIM Classic 50s P bass has a chunky neck. I don't know if that's true or not.
In here, we decided that if the neck measures .85" or more front to back at the nut, it's chunky. If it just has a 1 3/4" wide nut but no fatness, that's not chunky.

Try one before you write them off. They are narrow, which the Epi was not, but they have some meat on the back, unlike the usual Fender roadkill flat backed necks. I like my P a lot, but if the neck had a bit of meat on its wide back, I would like it even better.
I don't know where Fender gets the nerve to call those roadkill flatbacks a neck. That's the #1 reason I stopped playing my 2008 American Deluxe. The neck is just awful.
I'll try a Gibson Thunderbird if I can find one. I'm a fan of narrow nuts and meaty backs. A narrow nut isn't essential for me, but it does make the neck feel absolutely perfect when combined with a 1" back. I've noticed that Gibson basses don't have necks anywhere near as skinny as Fender necks. It seems to me Gibson's got the right idea in that regard.
