The Chunk Keeps the Funk: Let's See Your Chunky Necks

I was playing my cello the other day, and I just kept thinking how nice the neck felt. Thick, narrowish nut, unfinished, 1 cm thick fingerboard.. Heaven.

I think we should start listing basses that usually come stock with chunky necks. To avoid repetition, lets start with the low hanging fruit.
Pretty much any P bass, but especially the Roger Waters and Steve Harris sigs. Stingrays typically have thick necks too.

A fine idea, cfsporn. I won't list Precisions as a whole though, based on my experience that modern P necks are quite thin. If we can get the names of more specific models, that's even better. If I miss any, let me know.

Master list of basses that come stock with chunky necks:
1. Steve Harris Precision
2. Roger Waters Precision
3. Music Man Stingray
4. G&L L2000
5. Rickenbacker 4003

You'd have to define what you mean by chunky. My Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz neck is no wider that my other two four string Jazz basses but it feels chunky by Jazz bass standards because it is a couple mm thicker front to back. I also have a 2000ish Jazz V that has a baseball bat neck. I like them all though, thick or thin doesn't bother me.

You have to be careful with Rickies. Some years they make the neck thin, some years they make them chunky. I got lucky with mine! It has a very nice feeling D profile (I think, I am horrible with these types of things) neck.

If we need to define "chunky", I think a reasonable minimum would be .85". Some might disagree, but we need a happy medium area that's neither chunky nor thin.

Based on that a couple of my Jazz Basses and some Warmoth Jazz necks are minimally chunky (Neck Thicknesses at 1st/12th frets):

Fender Reggie Hamilton (2012) 22.2/24.8 mm; 0.87/0.98 inches
Fender Standard Jazz V (2000) 22.3/25.6 mm; 0.88/1.01 inches
Warmoth Standard IV neck 22/25 mm; 0.87/0.0.98 inches
Warmoth Standard and Deluxe V neck 22/25 mm; 0.87/0.0.98 inches

And some others are not:

Fender Standard Fretless Jazz (2003) 21.4/24.1 mm; 0.84/0.0.95 inches
Fender Deluxe Active Jazz (2011) 20/23 mm; 0.79/0.91 inches
Warmoth Slim IV neck 20/23 mm; 0.79/0.0.91 inches
Ibanez SR505 19.5/21.5 mm; 0.78/0.0.85 inches

I measured the Fender numbers on basses I own, the Warmoth and Ibanez numbers come from their websites. I am as comfortable with metric as with English measurements although I do detest fractional measurements. A decimal inch is as good as anything the metric system can offer!

Interesting. I'm curious now what the measurement of standard and deluxe Jazzes are.
