Sorry to hear about the MB's demise, b90, but congrats on the IEMs. I've yet to try them but I'm sure I would find the need to make the purchase if it came up. Keep rockin' the Bugera, baby!

My first combo was a Crate BX80. Big,awkward,dont recall it sounding that good. My buddy that played guitar in our little band had a PA horn that he dug out of the dumpster at the music shop. He had the bright idea to disconnect the speaker from my Crate and hook up the horn. Wanted to see what would happen. Idiot held the wire terminals and was yelling "hit the string!!!" so I thumped an open "E" and watched this guy ride the lightning He had dimed the amp. The other guys were horrified but the truth is,no one really liked guy so I just couldnt stop laughing. It took that kid a few to get his senses back and when he asked what had happened I said "grab those wires again" but apparently he remembered enough.. Anyway,thats likely the best thing that ever came out of that Crate.
When Thoroughbred Music was still open in Tampa I took an Ibanez off the wall and plugged into a BX80 they had on the floor. It blew a fuse or something cuz the amp just shut down. I didnt say a word,just returned the bass. Those are the two fond memeories I have of my first combo.

Hey there, CC Member #265! That's one of our functions here at the club; to jostle a sweet memory of long ago when ya plugged your bass into a jack, turned said amp on, cranked the volume, and went on to play a single note at 160 BPM for hours. Who knew it'd get so high-tech and sometimes confusing? BTW, I loved the "ride the lightning" line. That brought back memories as well...I think. :whistle:

By chance offered a Jazz Bass to mess with just north of here. First time ever with a JB. Kind of freaks me out until I twiddle the volume knobs. A JB still freaks me out, actually. Doubt I will ever be friends with one. But I've made similar statements, e.g. will never play single coils, will never play short scale, will never play passive, will never drive a VW, will never [lots of things]

Love that picture, M. Why can't my town have as cool a statue like this one of RG? Tell the cars to scram and you've got yourself a picture postcard of idyllic life in Ireland. I'd enjoy visiting old Rory, telling him thanks for rocking the world!

Yeah I love my IEMs now. I can actually hear myself now! The MB was very nice and I really didn't want to get rid of it, but I funded the IEM system purchase with the sale of the MB. The Bugera is still an amazing amp! Can't believe it's about $370 new! It's alot of amp for so little money...

My set up from practice on Sunday. We use IEMs, but I still have a combo in the mix! Specifically my Vox Pathfinder that acts as a preamp for my line into the board.

Not only have I seen the movie but I read the book and have been to Dyersville. Perhaps I will visit again anyway. There is more to see there than people might expect. I’d love to visit the “town” where my great father apparently ran a one man coal mine and grew vegetables wherever he could find a space to do it. A real new world crofter.

Been there too. If ya like baseball, it’s a must-see. A couple of years ago, our fourth grade classes, while learning Iowa History, found out about all the coal mining that was going on in the state in the 1800s, which was quite a bit. The coal wasn’t very high quality but made for a lot of towns pop up, especially in the southeast and south central part of the state. Interesting post, WBB.

My visit this morning to a place called MTPT reminded me of your MTftBP, for some unknown reason. :confused: Unknown 'cause my PT means Physical Therapy. :(

Good to see my old friends there from 3 years ago. Unfortunately, they couldn't save me from back surgery at that time. But, this time, I have hopes of simply strengthening a hip joint that may have been quite weakened by that episode 3 years ago. It had a good active year after the surgery but, for the last almost-two years, not so much. :mad:

Mrs. Dog and I hope to get back to the gym after New Year's, if That Thang Goin' 'Round allows. Although, I still blame my crouching down in the shallow pool for water aerobics almost 4 years ago for that previous PT and ensuing laminectomies.

Stockholm Syndrome is a fair description of my relationship the physical therapists who <cough cough> work with me <cough cough> after bilateral knee replacements. Order a dedicated practice stool from my hospital bed in knowledge that standing to play bass is not going to be a "soon thing".

Snapple fact. Physical therapy begins on the day of your knee replacement surgery :eek: :dead:

@Morrighan if you are considering ordering a stool look at drummers thrones. They swivel. They can be hydraulic. They are easily moved. They have seat backs if you want them. Drummer Thrones these days can be very comfortable for the prices.
