I had a tnt 100 in high school, I don’t remember it sounding all that great.....but you could put a bullet into it, throw it down the stairs, etc, and it wouldn’t bat an eye and would keep working.

It's no stretch to imagine a bass player in 1980 who develops Stockholm Syndrome with their Peavey.

Never met a Peavey bass I didn't like. Knew SumGai IRL who played a T40 and I recall he was one heckuva fine player and all-around cool dude.
I remember the T40’s as being heavier than sin.....but a nearly endless variety of different tones.
There was a T40 in the closest pawnshop (about 1 mile away) for $750. At the time I thought that was pricey, but I tried it anyway. It didn't seem any heavier than my G&L ASAT, which IIRC was around 9 lbs..
The pickups were just about as hot as the MFD pickups in my G&L, which surprised me. Only after you dialed it back properly, because all the knobs dimed isn't the same as it is on other passive basses.

The guys in pawnshops around here act like you owe them something after you've asked them to try an instrument or an amp, it's off-putting to say the least.
The guy basically said something like, "If you're serious about it...", like I needed to buy it if I hooked it up to my own amp, which I bring when I am serious about something.
This wasn't a case of me checking out stuff ALL the time either, as I rarely go in there.
Got the same sort of attitude from the shop across town when I tried a Genz-Benz amp & the damn thing started squealing like a pig on fire when I turned up the mids, like it was my fault or something.
One of these days I'm gonna stop going into pawnshops, LOL!
All the ones around here have gone to Hell anyway. The one good one where you could try stuff w/o asking lost their best employee & he was doing all the maintenance on the instruments.
Now there's stuff in there with action so high you could fit your pinky-finger between the last fret & the strings.

Likely faulty memory is yapping about some very innovative and non-intuitive electronics on the T-40.
Actually I see the V-V-T-T passive electronics on my semi-holllowbody as non-intuitive.
And in actually Reading The Fine Manual on my BG-400 combo I see for the very first time - it's a halogen light that went on somewhere above my head in the cartoon panel - there's a preamplifier output jack that is intended to drive a second amp. Which means in addition to the combo and extension cab, I can go stereo with a second rig. That's a great deal of firepower ....

Yes, non-intuitive is correct. You have to dial the treble-cut controls back to about 70% to get the full hum-bucker, anything above that & it's splitting the coils.
Not sure why they would wire it up that way.

Hey SR..you were right..lol I won that darn $1000 tiara as a first prize in a competition here as a promo for the TV series "The Crown", so yep..it is mine, but my bald head stuck out the top of it and spoiled the sparkling diamond effect because my head had more of a shine...so I gave it to my wife who has slightly less of a bald spot..ouch..she just wacked me loll
So, you are saying that you are the "Crowning Glory"...and yes, you have to watch out for wives. They often do have strong feelings for certain subjects or so I have learned

Some great concerts and memories there..Acca Dacca, John Waite and The Babys etc etc..boy do we miss out on heaps here in Aust. although I did catch Foreigner and The Doobies about '95 here in South Oz..great concert too. Treasure those memories and that scrapbook.Ha - you and my phone are smarter than I am! Found the scrapbook, some of the tic stubs have faded over time, but many survived nicely. Many backstage passes survived. My camera on my phone is obviously not great - had a hard time with the Rush pics got a few to come out decently. Avg ticket price to see a concert in 79-81 - 9 bucks!
