No bout a doubt it, the BA-108 is the most useful piece of gear I've ever had for less than a C note. And in daily use here for the next month as the house settles into a new and better configuration, a speaker upgrade is timely. And by now we all pretty well know Saturday night's feature attraction in the Combo Club all-night movie theater and laundromat.

I've noticed no love so far for the Orange Crush combos. I'm tempted to buy one, as I have a big birthday coming up. Any thoughts from my combos mates?
Go for it! Orange amps are top notch! A bit out of my price range, but good!
Are you serious? Do you want the entire club? With that image, you can have about anything you want, my friend. Is the ORIGINal a hybrid, as in tube preamp? While I'm personally more of a symmetry kind of guy and the front doesn't push my buttons, I have no doubt that it's a great combo and looks more like separates than the traditional combo. BTW, great-looking pedal board too. Number coming up!
Doc Intrepid, I'd do some research first. I read so much about Orange amps and they seem to always be in a love/hate relationship with their owners. One will write that it's just what they want, tonewise, and another will write how disappointed they were in that it wasn't what they thought it would sound like. Orange has been referred to as a punk-sounding bass tone, which would be middy, brash, and very aggressive. This from a guy who's only used a Micro Terror guitar amp back in the day.
I'll give you this, I've never heard anyone who plays a Hofner having used Orange so you may be the first person in the history of the world to ever try that combination. As for your final question, travel with me, my hollow-bodied bass brother, and let's shop for amps that make our basses shine. Currently, I'm looking at VOX (of course), Hartke, Ashdown, maybe TC Electronics, and even a used Traynor combo I've had my eye on at our local GC. What speaker configuration and power amount are you looking for?
I don't have anything in mind, but I'm turing 50 soon and figure I should reward myself in some way. I don't really want to spend money either, so I wasn't planning on buying anything. I'm concerned now to ensure I have money for the mortgage and my son's future. I have lots of bass gear, so anything I get now if indulgent. So maybe I should just get myself the Vox combo. I've wanted one for awhile, and Vox has treated me well so far. Not sure, though.

Either get the combo, which is ridiculously inexpensive for what you get, or spring for the mini Superbeetle Rig and have something you can mix and match with. I don't think you're gonna be disappointed with either one. That combo rocks my world, no doubt!
As you mentioned, keeping yourself financially secure is what's most important. Don't let idiots like me sway you into spending money that you already have earmarked. I tend to sell before buying as it allows me to live in the house without the fear of finding a time bomb under my pillow. You don't know #2!
Speaking of Mrs. Fearless Leader, I poke fun a lot, but she's really awesome. In fact, we just updated the upstairs living room, making it a sitting parlor for when I come home on Fridays and need to relax. So I let her do what she wanted with the room, but she insisted we needed something black and suggested my old SWR combo cabinet as a table between our chairs. I'm like, are you kidding? That old relic? So we cleaned it up and Exhibit A is below. The room is not only more beautiful, but it also rocks too! I love Mrs. FL.
